Man I dunno, I know this thread houses the fans that love Beggars more than anything else, but I like how every other album only has a few soft tracks instead of how Beggars is almost all but. I don't know the sales numbers either, but I remember during the Beggars and M/M tours they seem to have a lot less of a draw (at least for my dates) then the rest, so it's hard to tell how the larger fan base feels about that as well.
Not sure what your point is, but you are correct. Always thought Great Exchange was super underrated in their discography and glad they busted out Wood & Wire live finally, it was so much better than on album. Gives me hopes I may see Great Exchange sometime.
But his point was that other albums only had a few soft tracks while Beggars is mostly soft with a few exceptions.
Ohhhhh. Well there is also Circles, In Exile and the first 3:30 mins of the title track, but even with Doublespeak and The Weight they are pretty laid back tracks.
“but I like how every other album only has a few soft tracks instead of how Beggars is almost all but. ” This reads like you’re saying Beggars is all but soft tracks FYI
I love the approach they took with Beggars. It was almost like after writing 24 conceptualized elemental themed tracks they were in the mindset of let's just write and record something less constricting. Beggars is a great follow up to the experimention of alchemy index. They nailed it.
Yeah I can see that. Soft compared to previous albums is how I should have labeled it I guess, I shouldn't have thought it was a given. Stripped and scaled back maybe? Either way, arguing semantics is never something I have been good at
Yeah the wording was not the best, I just assumed he was saying Beggars was all soft except a few tracks with the "I like how every other album only have a few soft tracks"
I wouldn't count on that. I think if they had to do a 10-year tour for an album, they would have done it for Illusion, Artist or even Vheissu. At least they did that little 4-songs set for Alchemy in 2017.
Speaking of the Alchemy suite, did they switch up that set throughout the tour? Like did they eventually play all of TAI?
They're not even playing one beggars song on this BMTH tour. Doubtful they'd do an anniversary tour but hey we can hope. Beggars in full then an 11 song encore. Sign me up.
I'd kill for any album 10 year tour. Probably the only way I'll ever see Between the End, Music Box, At the Last, Melting Point of Wax and Burn the Fleet.
Beggars is a perfect mix of heavy and soft Thrice. At The Last, Talking Through Glass, The Weight, Answered (such a great bside!), are all Thrice doing heavy really really damn good. I will report anyone who disagrees.
My top tier heavy Thrice moments... That Hideous Strength The end of The Abolition of Man The Messenger Hold Fast Hope bridge/outro The ending of The Red Death Flame Deluge A Torch to End All Torches bridge/outro Earth Will Shake verses Paper Tigers The end of Stand and Feel Your Worth
But outside of the 3-4 tracks you listed, Beggars is not heavy at all. Even The Weight is not really heavy outside of the chorus. Out of the 10 album tracks, only two of them really are heavy (and happen to be my two least favorites)
