Just came to say “vinyl” and also laugh and enjoy the impending flood of hate for hold up a light now that it is their next music video.
That music video made me dislike the song more. I never hated the song itself, but man, I hated that music video.
"Beyond the Pines" is one of their greatest songs to date; it's also filled with visual language. I could write 8 treatments for it by breakfast. And yet, Epitaph insists they make a video for the worst song in their catalogue? What's with all these kid-themed videos? What happened to watching the greatest band of the last two decades PLAY THEIR OWN MUSIC?
I’m good with Hold Up a Light.I could see it being used for sports related promos. A video like this should have the band. Maybe they drive around an end up at a show in a parking lot. Otherwise they just seem lost. Like, there is no cause to Hold up a light to. Anyway, I like Dustin’s use of light as a theme in writing. Beyond the Pines is still the best song on Palms by far. Chills.
I think I just really found the vacant stares and walking toward the camera lens with a vague "You wanna fight me!?" look to be grating. I understand the concept of looking determined, but it just seemed dumb. Edit: Phrasing.
They have released 4 of my bottom 5 from the album as some sort of single. Boy do I feel out of touch.
Everything about the album, the music videos, the vinyl, Hold Up A Light, etc. aside... I NEVER want to see a video for Beyond The Pines. The song is so perfect in sound, arrangement, lyrics, placement on the album, etc. that I would never want my perception of it ever tainted by a manufactured image other than what my mind generates. I say tainted because everything it evokes is so custom to each listener (like all music obviously) but this song hits so deep that I don’t want to see the video or images of the video in my head every time I hear it.
I can agree with this, but I still love those songs. The songs I like the most are just more "non single"ly
I mean let's be honest "Hold up a Light" is objectively the worst song on here and it's not close...yes I said objectively.
Black Honey is way better than Hold up a light but its way different too. I like the blues rock of hold up a light but I completely understand why many wouldn't like it. It is what it is at this point.
probably won't bother to play the radio edit of the song.. don't really understand what needed to be done to the mix for the radio.. bring up the vocals even more?
