I don't think they are getting weird again, they are going to right standard rock songs from here on out.. don't expect them to be experimental but what i think we will get instead is a long lasting career where the band can be financially successful and still make music they love. You can't ask for much more than that.
Using different instruments and sounds can be considered weird, but when they're used in conventional song structures, it sounds frustrating, perhaps restrained, that they didn't dive deeper.
Reading your year-end lists in another thread bummed me out. Very few Chorusians cared about this record.
An album not making an AOTY list doesn't necessarily mean people didn't care about it. It just means there were better records in their opinion.
I didn’t have it on my list but I still think it’s a good record and it still receives plays from me I know a lot of people here were let down with it though.
Our manager once said we could do WHATEVER we wanted as long as we wrote 4 songs that were structured for radio. The other 8 songs could be as weird as we wanted (and they were). That's why I'm perplexed by the last couple Thrice records. Take me on an adventure like "For Miles" bridge. Give me another duel between Dustin and Teppei's guitars a la Dust.
You sound so entitled. Just let the band do what they want. As their "biggest fan" you should respect the choices they make and just be glad they are making the music they love.
Whoever started this fallacy – that equates fans expressing their desires vis-à-vis their favorite band to entitlement – fails to understand the meaning of entitlement. If I love a particular restaurant and I state how I hope they serve their famous lobster bisque the next time I go, does that mean I'm acting entitled? Of course not. Get outta here with that nonsense. What I hope for in no way says that I think I have an inherent right to something.
Fan: I hope Thrice comes to my home country of Brazil! Other Fan: You sound so entitled! How dare you!
I think they should do whatever they want. I would like a weird off the wall record because I think they are incredibly talented and could really make something more memorable than the last few. That said, I’ll continue to be very satisfied with 2-3 songs a record that blow me away.
They will do whatever they want. They've always done whatever they want. As fans, we're still allowed to have hopes and dreams. I'm completely in agreement with the statement above.
I was enjoying the ride, but then I was accused of being "entitled" for wanting Dustin and Teppei to duel banjos on the next record. Thus, I'm forced to have to explain what entitlement really means and how fans being fans is not entitlement. I really want some lobster bisque now.
Or you just don’t worry about it, I think entitled is more when you demand something and are disappointed with the artist when you don’t get it. Wishful thinking is harmless!
I think if there is one place where you can express yourself about things you’d like to see from a band...it should be a music forum about the band. Telling a band they suck on Instagram vs expressing what you’d like to see in direction for the next record in a dedicated forum seems like fair game. Also people can disagree with me and that’s okay too.
