They were so awful when I saw them open for Thrice. The singer sounded like he rambled the whole time. Thank god the bar in that venue was on the other side of the lobby away from the stage.
I just don't think their sound works as well in those bigger venues, go see them at a 300 cap and you won't be saying that. They are amazing.
Every show I've seen LD play has been incredible, including opening up for bands in bigger venues so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
When the singer is incoherent, I feel like “awful” is a fair word to use. I didn’t say the band was always awful. But the performance I waked away from was rough. I can only speak to the show I went to.
While not enjoying them myself, I absolutely loved the energy they pulled from the people who were clearly there to see them. It was wild. I can appreciate and respect a band even if I just don't enjoy their music. Each time I've seen La Dispute, I've come away just being really happy for their fans who are clearly satisfied by their live sets.
So I love LD and every album they’ve put out, but agree that they don’t sound that good live, IMO. Not that they’re bad live or anything but yeah. The singing would be my biggest complaint.
Thrice is the best sounding live band I’ve ever seen. I’ve seen them 5 times and they’ve been flawless. Sound even better than on the album, which shouldn’t be possible lol.
Dustin solo live is also a thing of beauty. I’m still so happy he did a live cover album so I didn’t have to listen to bad web rips. I want to see Thrice play again at a smaller-mid level size venue on concert stop. I’ve really enjoyed smaller-mid size venues lately.
That shit got removed from Spotify a way back... Bothers me more than I thought it would. Oh well, atleast I still got this:
Seeing Dustin solo opening for Tom Morello back when Please Come Home came out is one of my fondest concert memories. Got to meet Tom, Dustin and his parents that night.
