Your Sparkling Death Cometh is my favorite. One of my favorites of this decade actually. Rediscovered the band's discography recently and fell in love with that album all over again like it was the first time I'd heard it.
I feel kind of left-out having received exactly the vinyl variant I thought I was getting. But in all seriousness, good on them for working to rectify this stuff. I need to spin this again soon. It's fallen out of my rotation due to the sheer volume of October releases.
Saw these dudes last night in SF They sounded so good. Set list was kinda strange but had some big highlights. Only us is a dope cold opener. The synth is loud AF Pines is maybe the best lyrical output they have since beggars. Really shined thru. Got to hear Daedalus which i never thought I’d see again Plus paper tigers still rips What kind of bummed me out was I didn’t really enjoy the rest of the palms tracks live - The grey felt paint by numbers Hold up a light...is what it is The dark - was Saved by the crowd outro There is a set list of tracks off TBE and Palms that id really like to see. Based on what they actually played, I feel like im in the minority
Same, I've seen it a bunch. I think Daedalus is their go to song from Air/Earth just like Firebreather is their go to for Fire/Water.
Yeah, this is going to end up my album of the year I think. Everything that I have been looking forward to has released and I've listened to it all, there hasn't been anything that has made me feel like "Beyond the Pines" does and as a whole I think this outdoes every other release this year. Closest competition with this is The Republic of Wolves "shrine".
That Underoath album was very forgettable. Palms still has some tracks that bring me back to it (Just Breathe, My Soul, PInes).
This at least has a couple of songs I like. I think there's maybe one redeemable Underoath song on that album
Gonna come back to this sometime over the next week. Revisiting my favorites from the year. There aren’t many, but can I through the God of War OST into the mix? With RDR2 OST too? I’m excited that this year shaped up how it did. That a record from (arguably) my favorite band wasn’t my favorite. So much great music this year.
I think if I combined the last two records (in some order)- Hurricane The Window The long defeat Death From Above Whistleblower Salt and Shadow Only Us Just Breathe My Soul Branch in the River Blood on Blood Pines it would be my favorite Thrice record
I love both albums as is, but combining the best of TBE and Palms to make one incredible "what if" album could be fun. I'd probably go: 1. Hurricane 2. A Branch In the River 3. The Window 4. Just Breathe 5. The Long Defeat 6. Everything Belongs 7. Stay With Me 8. Only Us 9. Black Honey 10. Pines
Really surprised at the turn this thread took on this record tbh. Maybe it’s just because my expectations weren’t super high but I still think this is a really solid record and feel like it does wayyy more interesting things than either of their last two, even if it feels a little disjointed in places. I haven’t gone back to it super often but I’ve attributed that much more to the high volume of quality music coming out in the last quarter of 2018 rather than the quality of this record itself.
Palms Everywhere, Palms Nowhere 1. A Branch in the River 2. Sea Change 3. The Window 4. Just Breathe 5. Death from Above 6. Whistleblower 7. Blood on Blood 8. The Long Defeat 9. Seneca 10. Black Honey 11. Stay with Me 12. Beyond the Pines It's hard to sequence TBE songs with Palms since many of the TBE songs bleed into the next, but I did my best. When people say TBE is more cohesive than Palms, the carryover effects play a major role in that feeling (as well as tonal consistency across most songs). Palms left some spaces in between songs, but effects rarely bled over into each subsequent track since they were so unique from each other.
Returning to this today. Also, continuing to be ignored by Epitaph and KingsRoad. Oh well. Not worth my time.
