this kind of gets to the heart of my issue. the songs here are dynamic while the production just isn’t. TBEITB doesn’t have as dynamic of songs and the production isn’t as dynamic, but it works way better because it doesn’t need to be.
This band isn't good anymore. Dustin should focus on his solo stuff instead. I listened to this again thinking it might click but it is a goddamn snorefest.
TBE was way more disjointed than Palms. They wrote most of Palms while on tour together. They didn't have that luxury with TBE, hence the reliance on file sharing.
Just because I’m struggling with this right now, I still believe it to be a superb record. Just not in the mood for it.
That’s probably the case but to me this album feels more like a collection of ideas than songs. When I listen to TBE it feels complete...while Palms (again, to me) does not. There’s some great stuff on this album for sure but I just don’t feel a call to go back to this album even though I really want to.
Let me also again say that Thrice is probably in my top 3 or 4 favorite bands... so in all reality I should shut my mouth and be happy they’re still releasing new music.
Honestly, in terms of big rock bands I listen to...the new coheed album completely overshadowed this for me
I think we can all agree that just means the next album will be even better (assuming we get one). They are always a band who pushes the limitations found in earlier releases.
This album is sort of diverse but most of it is pretty boring. Outside of the 3 main songs I enjoy it's pretty bland to me unfortunately. It might just be I don't like the direction they've been going in the past few albums now, which is a bummer
Haven't been going back to this as much as I would have liked either. I blame MeWithoutYou. Beyond the Pines is still my alarm and Blood on Blood is still top tier Thrice though.
This is in such a different sonic space than mwY, those albums really aren’t even in “competition” for me. I still listen to this pretty often and it’s definitely one of my favorites of the year. It’s great to throw on for a run, especially when I’ve only got about 40 minutes to get one in.
This is for sure my album of the year, every song on it is strong and still holds up. I'm so glad my favorite band is still able to put out these kind of releases this far into their career. Sadly it's not that common
I don't even think it blends together, every song on that is pretty distinct while maintaining some very great cohesion throughout
