This is absolutely the fastest that a Thrice album has fallen out of normal rotation for me. It’s really bumming me out, but I just have no desire to go back to it. It’s not even like I didn’t love it. I did. It’s weird.
Maybe it just didn’t surprise me like Foxing and mewithoutYou? I expected it to be good. It was good. I didn’t expect to love Foxing as much as I did. Didn’t expect mewithoutYou to top Pale Horses. They did. This is how I’m rationalizing it for now.
I never got on with the first two tracks, atlantic, or music box. a small chunk of the album hasnt aged the best either imo as I listen to it today. obviously its a classic scene album and has really high highs example being dust and nations. I throw close to half of it in my big Thrice playlists for when I get a Thrice itch.
Yep, my thoughts exactly. Foxing and mewithoutYou raised the bar. I think Palms is a good album, but I also think Thrice played it too safe.
Alright everyone. In an attempt to centralize the vinyl information and stop pestering everyone with it, I have succeeded in getting a post stickied on the Thrice subreddit. That is where I will post new information that I have when I get it. Instead of posting it here and bothering everyone, I will post the link and just state that there is a new update. Also, if someone could post this to the vinyl collective thread that would be appreciated. I’m locked out of my account for some reason and I also refuse to disable my adblocker. Thanks! P.S. There is a new update. #PalmsGate: Updates Regarding the Palms Deluxe Vinyl Package Issue https://reddit.com/r/thrice/comments/9po8ro/palmsgate_updates_regarding_the_palms_deluxe/
Your frustration and determination makes a lot more sense in the context of seeing this picture. Wowza.
What’s funny is the idea of “completing my collection” is not my driving force for vinyl resolution. If you look, you would see that had I received the correct record then I would be missing the clear with album art splatter. 180g - Came with Vinyl Package Grey/Black - Came with Vinyl Package Red w/ Black Smoke - A family member out west picked it up for me at an indie shop thinking that I didn’t have the vinyl. Beer/Black - Went live on the UK site while the US site was crashed. Ordered it in case I missed out on the US bundles. Oxblood - a friend of mine who is a fan in the UK mailed it to me as a gift/sign of indie supporting camaraderie. Clear w/ Black Smoke - A friend of mine’s sister went to a show and bought him two in case one didn’t play. He mailed me the other one as a gift since the first played correctly. Clear with Album Art Splatter - Mailed to me incorrectly as part of the package I purchased. I actually wouldn’t have had this one if it wasn’t for the mistake. So yes, receiving the correct record would complete my collection minus the UK press of the 180g, but bottom line is what I want what I paid for. A record that is literally a 1/1 record no matter how many are pressed has more personal, sentimental, and monetary value than a 1/100 record. And you can’t just flip all 200 orders and say “sorry, get fucked” when you probably paid closed to $3,000 to press them and made $20,000 selling them. That’s just my opinion.
haha no, The Point is a radio station in St. Louis. I haven't lived there in a while, but they don't tend to play anything new in this scene. They're all about playing older 90s rock like RATM, 311 and things like that, and new stuff from bands like breaking benjamin and shit.
Before Black Honey they wouldn't ever play anything by Thrice, even when I requested. Huge step up for them haha.
On the subject of recent acoustic performances. I only just found that this one happened, and it is super good.
