Depends on where you come from. I always find it funny when people say soda. Soda pop, soda, pop. All the same.
Or order a Cola at a restaurant to confuse a server. Palms is really cool. Reminds me of the first time I listened to Beggars, and all the cool twists and turns that happen going through the record.
Listening to Beggars again to see if it clicks with me. It's clicking more, and might move up my rankings a bit, but it deff won't ever top Vheissu or Fire/Water or TAITA for me. But i could now see it above M/M or IOS. So it's moving up in my world.
I'm like 99.9999% sure of this haha. I will say that it is more energetic than I remember it. Probably because I was expecting/hoping for something heavier and more akin to their previous albums when it first came out. Was hugely disappointed then and that has carried over through the years I think, which is why I have been having such a difficult time with it. I'm still not big on the two more radiohead-y songs ("Circles" and "The Great Exchange") I know that the influence has always been there, but they wear it a bit too on their sleeve here. As someone who isn't a big radiohead fan, it's a bit much haha.
The actual problem is not being a big Radiohead fan. That band is objectively in a league of their own If thrice made an album of songs like blood on blood or the window I’d legit buy it 100 times
M/M might be one of my least favorite Thrice albums, but it plays a lot better when I'm blaring it in my car driving around for 30-40 minutes.
My family called soda "tonic" when I was a kid. I loved me an orange tonic. Not sure if it was a northern Mass thing or something, but even in southern NH I'd get looked at weird if I didn't call it soda these days.
I heard TBEITBN again yesterday and the outro to The Window is probably my favorite part, but I can't believe they outdid themselves on Branches. I still can't get over how good that outro is
I still wish Palms had an outro a la Window or Defeat. Heck, let me add For Miles and Daedalus to the list while I'm at it. But, I certainly respect the vocal and bass driven outros of this record.
Love all those outros, but Branches shook me to my core. Was not expecting something like that at all, esp after the sexiness of My Soul haha. Btw you forgot to mention Of Dust and Nations ;)
