It's not like this is the band's first step into experimenting or trying something with their sound. The fact that people still expect something like a "Deadbolt" and "Silhouette" seven albums later is just frustrating to me. I hate that that Riley even needs to make a comment like that.
Fans have a right to say what they want to about art, it is true. Likewise, the artist has a right to respond to those fans in the way they want to.
Like, Pete Wentz is still unsatisfied with Folie A Deux. If you try to use that as evidence that it's not good I'll laugh at you because that's dumb. Hey Mike did you ever think that at that stage in their careers they would have been disappointed by IC or IoS too? That a band on the verge of making that kind of jump in quality wasn't going to be satisfied with any albun that lived in their old sound? That you'd be on here 15 years later making the same tired points over and over again about Illusion of Saftey if the release of that and Artist were flipped?
Arguing with mike is so futile you guys. I stopped taking his takes seriously a long time ago and my life is better because of it.
Since I have him blocked, this thread just looks like a bunch of people arguing with their imaginary friend named Mike.
Alright... my turn. No particular order among the songs for each album. Identity Crisis Identity Crisis, Phoenix Ignition, T & C The Illusion of Safety Deadbolt, To Awake And Avenge The Dead, Where Idols Once Stood (The Beltsville Crucible was a tough omission) The Artist in the Ambulance Under A Killing Moon, Blood Clots And Black Holes, The Abolition Of Man Vheissu (This was the hardest one to decide) The Earth Will Shake, For Miles, Hold Fast Hope TAI: Fire Firebreather, The Messenger TAI: Water Digital Sea, Night Diving TAI: Air Broken Lungs, Daedalus TAI: Earth Digging My Own Grave, Child of Dust Beggars The Weight, Circles, Beggars Major / Minor Promises, Anthology, Words in the Water To Be Everywhere Is To Be Nowhere Hurricane, The Window, Black Honey Palms Only Us, Blood On Blood, and a tie between Just Breathe & My Soul B-Sides That Hideous Strength, Weight Of Glory, Lullaby
Even if they are disappointed with how artist came out, it doesn’t mean they don’t think it’s better than tios...
My soul has gone from being one of my least favorite to one of my favorites. It’s def a love song right?
I mean it's definitely easy to see na artist firing back at people who most likely don't know shit about production complaining about the production of an album or the marketing when they have no clue what goes into marketing. I'd be frustrated if I was them and I would have largely responded the same way Riley did. I always think to myself an artist does something for a reason, if I don't like it I don't like it, I can voice my concerns about it, but I don't pretend to know how to do it. They obviously would know better than I would why certain things are. Also it's their vision, they are doing what they want, I would hate for them to compromise their vision because someone doesn't like something.
I haven't thought that much about my favorite Thrice songs in a while, so hey, might as well give mine, even though that convo has mostly moved on: IC: Phoenix Ignition, Identity Crisis, Under Par TIOS: Deadbolt, Betrayal is a Symptom, Kill Me Quickly TAITA: The Artist in the Ambulance, Stare at the Sun, Silhouette V: The Earth Will Shake, Of Dust and Nations, Like Moths to Flame TAI-F: Firebreather, The Messenger TAI-W: Digital Sea, The Whaler TAI-A: Broken Lungs, The Sky is Falling TAI-E: Come All You Weary, Moving Mountains B: In Exile, Beggars, Wood and Wire MM: Yellow Belly, Anthology, Cataracts TBEITBN: Blood on the Sand, Hurricane, The Long Defeat b-sides: Flags of Dawn, That Hideous Strength, Motion Isn't Meaning Not anywhere close to having favorites for this new one yet. All I can say is that, when the dust settles, I think it'll be my clear #2 after Beggars, replacing... a, like, 3-way tie, lol.
You’re mistaken. They aren’t dissatisfied with TAITA the record, but rather the mixing job that was done on it. They’ve said this specifically several times over the years. Not the songs themselves. That and they had to rush the writing/recording of TAITA because of the new label. Why would they still play Silhouette or TAITA or others live so often? Vheissu was a reaction to cramming putting an album together. They wanted to take their time with Vheissu and pick a diff producer and do things different. Also, IOS is better than TAITA. ;)
I will meet you there beyond the pines, templed in twilight or dawn. Light and easy air tracing the lines on our palms... I love this album so much you guys.
That’s pretty good. Had I not already spent $100+ on vinyl and $50+ on concert tickets plus poster, I’d consider it too.
