Oh the comments are valid for sure haha, but every band goes through this. I remember thinking the same thing during the new Underoath album roll out. I personally just think responding to that kind of stuff just adds more fuel to the fire, but everyone is only human.
Yeah, I don't see anything wrong with what he said lol. Fans are just entitled a lot. They feel a connection to the music and for some reason that makes them feel some kind of ownership over it or, a even worse, like their opinion should matter at all in the creative process. If you want a say in the creative process of music, start your own band. Don't yell at an artist you "love" for not making "my favorite album 2.0"
Music critiques are one thing, but the armchair producing and marketing consulting would drive me nuts, too.
And then if they made "my favorite album 2.0" fans would complain that they didn't change their sound enough. Bands literally cannot win anymore sometimes :/
Bands can do all the fun extracurricular stuff for fans that they want. But art shouldn't be made to appease anyone. Art should be for the artist first. Imo at least.
"My Soul" is the only song that didn't immediately grab me music-wise, but Dustin's lyrics always do. I get chills during the end of "The Dark" "Just Breathe" and "Beyond the Pines" every time tho
I listened, hence my original post. I didn't quote it directly, but I don't relay things irresponsibly.
So with this release, Thrice has gone Super Saiyan 2? Is that what I am seeing here? Where's @Raditz when you need him haha.
He first brought up people commenting that they like the singles better “in the context of the album” and how redundant that comment is (I’ve always thought that).
Is it coincidence the first 3 songs were the singles? Or is that something labels / bands are doing for streaming? Actually glad the dark came out when it did because I would have really overplayed side A of my vinyl before I even got it. Lol
It's a shame that they are wrong. Even Thrice can make mistakes, luckily recording those songs aren't one of them.
First impressions after a few listens... First of all, I definitely like it. The production is remarkable, instrumentation is flawless, Dustin sounds as good as ever, and this is immediately more interesting on an experimental level than anything the band’s put out since Beggars. Maybe even since TAI. It has a lot of what I was missing from TBEITBN. It is objectively very, very good. That said, I’m also a little underwhelmed. I found myself saying “Okay...?” at the end of a lot of the songs waiting for something else to happen. The immediacy and excitement I got from TBEITBN wasn’t there even though I love how dynamic this is. “My Soul” and “A Branch in the River” are the only songs I really love right out the gate, but then “Hold Up a Light” comes in as what is easily my least favorite Thrice song in a long time (I say this as a “Wake Up” defender). As for the rest, there are individual moments I love, but the songs as a whole just don’t hit me. And as an album, it doesn’t feel very cohesive at all. I know it’s gonna grow on me like crazy, just a little disappointed it’s not hitting me much now.
Their dissatisfaction was so significant that it led to Vheissu, their redefining masterpiece. If they actually liked TAITA, who knows if Vheissu would come to be.
