I don't see Palms having the staying power like Vheissu, Alchemy and Beggars. Don't get me wrong I really enjoy it, and I'm excited to listen more, but I think 10 years from now we'll still be talking about those 3 releases I just listed
I love how different this album is and helps round their sound. It fits really nice into their discography as a whole. Not close to their best though. I can see people saying it's their favorite, but their best will always be V
Damn, you weren't kidding. This shit is goooood! Hold Up A Light feels very generic and lazy to me. It reminds me of this song I haven't heard or thought about in 15 years: Not a favorable association, but luckily none of the other songs feel that way though. I disagree. I think Only Us makes for a much better single and I think it's a terrific opener. Not a fan how the album opens with both singles in a row though.
If you listen to the record and have a sense of where it falls for you, nothing wrong in articulating it. What the hell is the point of this thread if not for that? It doesn’t mean that it’s set in stone. When Vheissu came out, I immediately said it was my favorite and it was. I knew it from day 1. Under some people’s logic here, even though I was correct and I haven’t ever really waivered from that, I shouldn’t have expressed that opinion? Nah, fuck that. I know what I like. I know I like this considerably more than pretty much all of their releases except Beggars and Vheissu. So I’m gonna go ahead and say that. In three years, if I don’t like it as much, I’ll say that. Not sure why there needs to be some policing about when people are allowed to form an opinion on something.
I don't really know where this album falls for me in their discography. I do know that "Just Breathe", "Everything Belongs", and "Blood On Blood" are easily among my favorite Thrice songs already.
I thought it'd be tough for them to top Hurricane at this stage in their career, but man, I like most of the songs on Palms better than Hurricane right now. Just loving Palms.
For me, Thrice has already created a few of my favorite albums of all time and are easily my favorite band. At this point in their career if they're putting together solid albums that I can enjoy all the way through and a few songs on each that become favorites, that's all gravy.
I never said it was their best album, and I’ve been clear that I understand it’s the honeymoon phase. I just really really enjoy it.
thats sort of how I feel, this isn't my aoty but I love it.. solid rock record that grooves hard. I'll be going back to it for a long time, like I do with all of their albums. They will never top vheissu for me and that is ok
It's a Really Good Song™ but wouldn't make my top 3 from that album (Between the End and Where We Lie, The Earth Will Shake, Stand and Feel Your Worth, with the b-side Flags of Dawn as an honorable mention).
Just got my digital downloads from KRM. The deluxe vinyl again says Clear +3 color splatter. If they screw me/us on this deal I’m gonna be super pissed off.

New interview with Thrice: Interview: Thrice | Killing Moon Feel free to skip the first few paragraphs.
Initial thoughts after a first listen: I like it, don’t love it. But I felt the same way about Beggars, which ultimately grew on me. I feel this is a very cohesive album and not merely a collection of songs. Stand outs thus far: The Grey, Just Breathe, A Branch In The River, Beyond The Pines. I’m seeing a lot of Beggars, Air and TBEITBN elements in here. Hard to pinpoint which songs, but I see bits and pieces in certain songs.
