I only have one complaint about Beyond the Pines.... I don’t think the chorus needs backing vocals...The lyrics are so powerful with just Dustin singing, I think it would sound better, but no biggie.
I like Hold Up a Light, but can totally see why people would not like it. There are a few songs I just have never been able to enjoy at all by Thrice: Doublespeak In Exile At the Last Call it in the Air Listen Through Me Wake Up Stay With Me Sea Change
I feel like Listen Through Me, Wake Up and Call It in the Air have a lot of people divided as well. At the Last and Stay with Me are great to me, but I get it. I feel you are going to get some hate haha but it's not like you listed Silhouette, For Miles or Hurricane lol.
I re-listened to Vheissu, Beggars, Major/Minor and Palms all in a row the other day. • I still love Vheissu. 11 of their best songs, not a thing wrong with them. Each song is its own separate place. Quite an achievement. • Still largely dislike Beggars. Most of it translates well live rather than on record. • Major/Minor is solid enough, I prefer it to Beggars by quite a bit. Cataracts is pretty underrated imo. • Palms is their best record since Vheissu, I just love it. The mixing and production are top-notch for them and each member is playing their respective instruments so well. The lyrics are some of the weakest looking at the album as a whole, but their are definitely some standouts that can stand among Thrice's greats.
I honestly think I would listen to every record, including Identity Crisis, before reaching for M/m. That record does pretty much nothing for me.
Yeah, I can't get over this record at the moment. Pretty easily their best since Beggars for me, I thought they had fallen off a bit after the last 2, but here they go again just making me absolutely enamored with them and reminding me why they're my favorite.
Major/Minor is my second least favorite as well but I still enjoy it. It’s a solid early fall record for me.
Never understood the dislike for M/M. Aside from some of the overt lyrics it has some all-timer Thrice tracks. Blinded, Words in the Water, Treading Paper, Disarmed are classics.
