largely the same? sapone is so overrated on this site I don’t get the hype y’all have for him. he’s done some good sounding records but the man isn’t jesus
I’ve been listening to the new wonder years record a lot lately and the first time I heard beyond the pines the guitar intro sounded like heavens gate and threw me for a loop lol
First impressions: I’ve avoided any talk of the album to form my own opinions and these are some quick thoughts... 2 songs gave me goosebumps and the obvious stand out tracks: Just Breathe and Beyond the Pines. Just wow. Hold up a Light is well...cringey. It might be fun live I guess, but is that what they call butt-rock? Only my first listen so it may grow. Blood on Blood is really good, but the bridge is just a little too much, kinda kills the vibe a bit. The album is definitely a lot more chill than I expected, which is good, some of my fav Thrice songs (Circles, Milly) are chill, so no complaints there. I love chill Thrice. The album is not TBEITBN 2, which was my biggest fear (love TBE but just didn’t want the same album). Infact, the album really stands out on its own, and uniqe in the Thrice discography which is pretty special for a 10th album to achieve. Overall, I think it’s pretty good, and a fine addition to the Thrice collection.
I've never understood the term butt rock haha. I feel like a lot of my favorite bands growing up had that title, (Chevelle, 10 Years, Breaking Benjamin) but those are all solid bands that have cool sounds... I dunno.
Yeah I may get to the point where I just start skipping Hold Up A Light. Takes me out of the record every time I get to it :/
my point is, they've always had songs like this. People have been calling thrice radiorock since beggars.. its what they are now.. big deal? Hold up a light is awesome, i wanna scream it and smash a fist through the wall
I would only call All That's Left, Stare at the Sun, Image of the Invisible and Black Honey radio rock....because those are their only songs that made it to radio I believe.
i'm still wrapping my head around this record but i'd like to formally register myself as part of the "hold up a light actually rules a lot" contingent
Hold up a light is better than wake up It is a straight up the middle rock song I have no interest in...but isn't bad
there must be so much radio play going on in the background that I'm completely unaware of I'm not even getting social ads, which is strange to me
Like "Wake Up", which I also really like, I think "Hold Up a Light" suffers a bit because the songs before and after it are so damn good.
