TBE and Palms are pretty equal to me currently. I appreciate both the more straightforward rock of TBE and the branching out of Palms and together they are like 2 different flavors of modern Thrice . I would say they might end up numbers 4 and 5 on my top 5 thrice records and very interchangeable depending on my mood
Palms has really grabbed me. The singles being front loaded is still a little weird...but that’s more my fault for overplaying the grey. Songs like just breathe and my soul make me believe this band could literally pull off any style. Also If I was going to recommend a listening order. Vheissu Palms TAI TBE Beggars Artist is cool but it sounds like a record of its time. I love it. But I don’t think they will ever make artist 2.0. But sincerely you could pick anything and be fine. It’s all good. Like really good.
My rankings I think Vhiessu Beggars Fire Water TBEITBN TAITA Earth AIr Major Minor TIOS IC I could see Palms in the top 3 but I'm not ready for that yet.
It's pretty interesting to see how low everyone is ranking IC (makes sense) and TIOS. I'm particularly surprised by a seemingly consensus ranking that TAITA > TIOS. I definitely agree that our musical tastes evolve as we grow, but I feel like there's been this backlash to trash on the band's earlier works to fend off criticism against their recent work.
Thrice is one of these rare bands where many of the songs I got into with them were from finding a performance of it on YouTube first. I heard Daedalus on the Myspace sessions first and immediately fell in love with it. I personally think it sounds better than the recorded version due to Dustin's raw emotion in the outro
I really love the opener of this. The chorus has just hit me strongly. The closer is good but Salt and Shadow really evoked some emotions from me so I don't think it's as good as that.
For all of you who have already received your vinyl, or have had yours ship, are they all the gray variant?
Called my local shop to see what they’re getting in, sounds like I’ll be getting a red w/ black smoke variant. Very excited to play the shit out of it on Friday night.
