I just looked at ERR's tour dates as well as Thrice's. It doesn't look like there will be an opportunity for a live duet of Luke Skywalker's favorite Thrice song, "Just Breathe."
My track-by-track from around 5 listens so far, haven't listened to all of the lyrics yet and I'm rubbish at describing technical stuff so whatever... -Only Us: This is my early favourite. That 80s (Stranger Things) synth has been stuck in my head since. This reminds me of Vheissu the most (my favourite Thrice record). Bass is really good in this. Dustin sounds great - chorus is huge and will be a good live song. My god do they know how to do an opener, my favourite since 'All The World is Mad' -The Grey: In context, this fits really well. It's a strong song. -The Dark: Really like the restraint in this song. Comes out of its shell at the parts it needs to. Really wish that the choir thing at the end had went on for one more round and could've played out a bit more hauntingly. -Just Breathe: Riley's drumming is brilliant on this song. Good pace to it. Reminds me of 'Beggars'. I enjoy Dustin's voice when its that lighter sound in the background, very airy and light feeling. It outros really nice with the female vocals. -Everything Belongs: Coldplay-ish but not in a bad way. This is quite a lovely sound. Comes across more Dustin solo to me but it's a nice change of pace in the middle of the album. -My Soul: Dustin's voice is brilliant on this. Absolutely carries the sing and fills a lot of the purposefully empty spaces. The instrumental are definitely something 'Beggars'-esque -'Branch in the River': YES. I like this urgent, in your face Thrice. There's great tone to this and Riley's drumming again is strong and driving. Love the guitar work going on here. This will be a monster live with that outro. -'Hold up a Light': This is alright. I really like that bridge part with the snare hitting hard. The repetition is probably the main part of what I don't like about this song but Dustin's delivery of the line almost makes up for it. -'Blood on Blood': Radiohead all over, crazy. Again, Dustin's repetition seems to niggle at me for some reason but it might click when reading along with the lyrics. This song is probably the experimental standout. There's so much variation of sound and pace. The harp is great. I love that intro sound too and how it returns to build the song up again. -'Beyond the Pines': Brilliant. They sure know how to do closers.
I don't hate Beggars at all, but I also don't love it. So far, this is doing much more for me. It's definitely the most Beggars album since Beggars though, but i think the sounds and influences are more in line with what I listen to.
Same for me, I am going to assume you guys have Deluxe Bundle 1 pre-ordered right? Originally there was a mix up with the Wax Mage and the one of a kind Vinyl on their pre-order pages. Where the image said something different than what the bundle actually contained. I thought I was getting the one of a kind, but then ended up being Wax Mage on my confirmation. If they end up sending the one of a kind my way I'll be happy as it was what I originally wanted anyways.
Yeah there was a wax mage vinyl and one of a kind bundle from what I remember. I think the clear +3 splatter we see in the download part will be the one of a kind, at least I hope so.
Yeah this is what I ordered. The other bundle was a clear with black, red, white splatter. That’s what bothers me as the new email says “clear +3 splatter” for the deluxe vinyl.
I think it's 100 pressed for both, I believe the other one is the one of a kind, I hope it's not some common variant.
FWIW, after listening to it over the weekend, Palms is among my favorite 10 records of 2018. I think TBEITBN might have been an 'honorable mention' for my favorite records in 2016, but I'd have to double check.
Okay, I wouldn't consider myself a diehard Thrice fan, nor a casual listener, but this album is a solid 8/10 for me after a couple listens. The bass in these songs sounds so damn good.
This is what my order page looks like as well. The phrasing of it just concerns me, because I want the Wax Mage, not the other /100 variant.
