Hey, I feel you. I'm a huge Thrice fan, but I didn't and still don't really like Beggars at all (flame shields up). Sometimes you just can't get into it and that's cool.
I've yet to listen to anything but The Grey, so my expectations aren't terribly high at this point. Hopefully I like it more within the context of the album.
Palms is definitely one of their best records. Right up there with Vheissu and IOS for me personally. I think Palms is much better than Beggars. Absolutely loving the mix and production with headphones on. Being able to hear the space in the songs, and each member’s playing is key. Brilliant stuff.
The Dark is my least favorite of the singles, but The Grey had to grow on me, so maybe this will too. I do think they all 3 sound pretty different though. Excited to listen to the rest of it tonight/tomorrow.
Not a question if this is their best since beggars it’s a question of is this better than beggars for me now
would like to give this album way more time to breathe and reveal itself before comparing it to anything else
Maybe I’m blinded by my love for the band but I can think of strong arguing points as to why this album is great already and I havnt even dove too deep into the lyrics
Video is so cool and a nice twist on the traditional studio/live footage type of video. Using the fan submitted videos like that for the ending, framed into the album art is such a nice choice.
The bass tone in the verses of The Dark reminds me of The Color Before the Sun and the chorus reminds me a bit of Myxamatosis by Radiohead. Really excited to hear the whole thing on Friday.
Honestly they should just release the album early at this point. It's available to purchase at tons of places already including here now.
Sorry, respect your opinion, but you saying this record is radio rock and then subsequently saying TBEITBN was quite good is pretty laughable to me. And to be clear I'm not saying TBEITBN is bad.
Am I the only one who can't stop thinking about He Is Legend once I hear these bluesy guitar licks and riffs? The guitar tones are reminiscent of those used by the former in their last few albums.
I think Palms has some of the strongest tracks ('Beyond the Pines') and also some of the weakest tracks in their whole discography. 'Hold Up A Light' is probably the worst Thrice song I've heard since their first album. How did this chorus make the record? To be fair, 'Wake Up' on TBEITBN kind of had the same problem.
