Dustin sounding this crisp with so little reverb is crazy. Liked this a lot on first listen. Unlike most people here, I thought the front half was a lot stronger than the back but Im sure itll grow. At the moment, it feels too early for me to tell if it is as incredible as I think it is or if Im just excited that there is new Thrice.
Production is great. I love how on Everything Belongs it transitions seamlessly from piano to guitar. Everything else feels like a deliberate choice for the song.
My ranking as of now Top Tier: Just Breathe My Soul A Branch In The River Blood on Blood Beyond the Pines Hold Up A Light Mid Tier: Only Us Low Tier: The Grey Everything Belongs The Dark
As usual, I'm struggling with the two singles. Being at the opening of the album doesn't help. I just want to jump straight to The Dark on each spin. That's not to say I dislike those two songs, but they feel detached, despite having only listened to The Grey a small handful of times, and Only Us once. I'm vowing to just straight up stop listening to singles.
Only us may be my favorite song on here, I don’t mean that as a slight to the rest of the songs, I just think that songs incredible
Everything belongs reminds me of dave Matthews band, the way it grooves in 7/4 totally something they would do. That comment probably gonna make some people upset but I love dmb
Same I’ve listened to them so much that if feels like they are from a different album. I feel in time they will blend in with rest of the alum.
I know this won't be a popular opinion, but the chorus of Just Breathe kinda reminds me of Imagine Dragons. I'm not saying this as a bad comment, I like Imagine Dragons. It just gives me the same vibe.
Cool to see them pulling from different influences on this, I think they needed a shake up after major minor and tbe, this album does that, at least It feels that way to me
