Art direction is incredible. I have a profound respect for Thrice as a band. Conceptually I love their ethos I wish I connected with the music more. It’s all incredible but I have never found myself revisiting their work a ton.

    Fight the long defeat.

Thanks! One benefit to a closer look: there are definitely a few lyrical snippets visible on that overview as well. Not much but fun to get a glimpse.

As usual not fully sold on the first listen, specially the way Dustin comes in against the main riff, but feeling it more now.
On headphones, I noticed the drums are all over the place in a good way. I mean - starting off with a quick beat, then slow and heavy, then sixteenths on the hi hats, and finishing with Riley's first double kick playing since... TAITA?? Holy cow.
The sludgiest part also reminds me of some of the heavier music recommendations Riley usually shares (edit: now saw first page mentioned KWC).

I always get nervous if I'm going to like it, and always end up loving each album as a whole even when I might have a few songs that are my least favorite. Best news all day.

Also - when you have a song called Undertow, I can't help having high expectations and no idea what it's going to sound like haha.

Between this and Horizons / East I feel like Riley has been doing some really cool/new things on the drums. Some more tasty groovy parts

Really love the song. Love that they’re just doing what they want. It doesn’t give “first hooky single” just a tad ripper track.

Deluxe packaging is cool, but I still went with the Epitaph orange variant. Can't justify an extra ~$15 for just aesthetic stuff at the moment.

Gnash might be my favorite Thrice single since the To Be Everywhere... cycle.

I can't get it out of my head. I haven't really been following these guys since really the Alchemy Index. That might change with this album.

Woulda bought because Thrice are a "no questions asked, no song needed, buying day one" kind of band for me, but this makes me feel better about spending "extra" for sure, especially when really really really trying not to spend so much on vinyl.

I love Gnash because it’s continuing to do what East did imo with experimentation

Not going to lie, I wasn't super hot on the song when I first heard it, but it's been stuck in my damn head since. Now I am trying to stay away from it so I don't wear it out.

Yeah, it also feels spiritually connected to Dead Wake and Open Your Eyes, which makes sense since those songs were originally meant for /West.

    just one of those ghosts

Definitely succeeds at being a continuation of H/E. Also reminds me of the jammiest stuff from M/m, like Blur and Cataracts. And then with the chugs bit at the end it conjures Fire or earlier stuff. This song feels like them being very true to their core sounds to me.
