After multiple listens distant suns is still the crown jewel on this album for me. Only song I haven’t really gotten into is Crooked Shadows. Undertow is growing on me. Vesper Lights first half is up there with Distant Suns for me but idk I lose a little interest on the back half. Distant Suns Albatross Holding on Blackout Vesper Light Gnash The Dark Glow Undertow Unitive West Crooked shadows
Holy fuck what an amazing album. Exceeded all of my expectations. I was moved to tears on multiple songs, especially Distant Suns and Vesper Light. Big fan of Undertow. Would have fit perfectly on Water from the alchemy index. Albatross will be stuck in my head for months. This band always delivers. Stunning work. Can’t wait to see these songs live this year.
just dawned on me i never jammed the artist redux so i will be doing that before hitting west tonight. finally got my vinyl so im all set lfg, but wanted to wait until after my letlive / sound of animals fighting live weekend to give it the space it deserves lmao
Really happy with this. I’ve been listening pretty much nonstop. Even tbeitbn took a few months to click with me this way
This passed the run test. Listened to East, Dead Wake & Open Your Eyes, West, and Artist Revisited on a 14-mile run this morning.
As others have said it’s funny how the last two tracks both give TOOL vibes. The bass in Vesper and Unitive/West reminds me so much of 10,000 Days.
Ive never listened to tool but im gonna keep it that way so i dont know what everyone is referring to for the bass part
finally getting to this album and i was getting kinda worried off some of the stuff i was hearing from others about it but my first listen was really really positive. unitive west is sooo sick ironically feel like a lot of what i like about this is very different from what i like about east but i think they will complement each other nicely
and yeah one of my biggest takeaways from this album is i really want more phxc bands to work tool influence into their sound because tool themselves are a band that belongs in the past tense, fuck em good riddance
acting like tool has no good songs is stupid and the influence on the last two tracks is clear as day so clearly thrice agrees
Tool is absolutely one of the most boring bands I've ever listened to. I'd given their full discography multiple listens before the allegations and nothing ever stuck. No art is objectively good or objectively bad. I genuinely don't think they have good songs. Plus one of them is a rapist.
undertow is unbelievable, was expecting a straight digital sea type cut which i wouldnt have minded either but its so seamlessly at balance between the electronics and the heavier stuff in a way that threw me off almost only song im not fucking with is crooked shadows so far, that song is kind of annoying lol
Saying x part sounds like Tool, recognizing their influence on Thrice's music isn't an endorsement. Want to make that clear because I don't want this thread to turn into an unnecessary argument with posters misreading each others over and over again.
