This is absolutely incredible so far. Undertowwwww are you kidding me!? Undertow into Holding On is astounding. Crooked Shadows! Distant Suns wow. This is paring perfectly too cuz I’m working up in the hills today and my drive this am with the album was perfect. Sun just coming up above the rain and cloudy mountains. We’re fucking back
This is terrific, really hits its stride in the second half. I'm sure there will be more to say down the road but for now I'm really pleased with the sonic direction they took here.
I feel like this album is so much better than Alchemy and Beggars, in my mind there's no comparison. Those records have some songs I dislike. This album is flawless. This one is going to be up there with Vheissu and IOS for me in the top 3 Thrice albums.
Two distracted listens while playing with my daughter but I’m enjoying this big time. Early standout is undertow
Yeah, on first play through I feel like this continues their amazing run from Vheissu through Major/Minor. Best they've done post-hiatus. Going to be jamming this for awhile!
this thing rules. excited to sink my teeth in it some more. only gripe is i really dont like it when albums end on a ton of empty space. first world problem but it’s the worst when listening to my fav songs on shuffle haha. fav Thrice record is Vheissu. probs Beggars and TBEITBN after that
This album rules. I would’ve called the last Horizons their best since Beggars, and this one is easily even more so “best since Beggars.” Speaking of Beggars, I think that’s the album I’d compare this to the most? Surprised to see Vheissu be the main comparison point for some people. This definitely leans into certain tones and vibes I’d associate with parts of Vheissu and Alchemy Index, but the some of the parts is Beggars to me. Maybe eventually I’ll land on a good way to articulate that, lol.
The chanting on Blackout when it starts to pick up takes me back to the first time I heard Image of the Invisible
I'm also not a huge fan of the quiet ending, but on my better headphones I feel like I'm listening to a massive container ship (or maybe a train) pass by, and it's not a bad fit after Vesper Light thundered through.
Has anyone found the digital lyric booklet anywhere? They posted them for the past couple albums here: The official site for Thrice and the Thrice Alliance fan community. Assuming it will pop up there soon, but I don't know if any other platforms include it these days.
Dustin agrees with you lol on the latest podcast that got posted here, he said it was especially in the grooves that he sensed a similarity to Beggars
If people want to rank, do it right. 1. Beggars 2. Vheissu 3. The Artist In The Ambulance 4. The Illusion Of Safety 5. Horizons West 6. Water 7. Earth 8. Palms 9. To Be Everywhere Is To Be Nowhere 10. Horizons East 11. Fire 12. Major minor 13. Identity Crisis 14. Air Rank: Anything
Yeah, I think the grooves are something I feel more on Beggars than Vheissu. Very similar blend of groove and ambiance/mood.
