Definitely a more fun and varied listen than Scavengers. Hope this is a sign of things to come for the remainder of the album.
Much prefer this to Scavengers. Everything I was going to mention has been brought up on here already, including the high register vibrato which just sounds lovely. This certainly has me more interested in the record than I was before.
Pro: if you just listen to it you don't have to spend time making a pros and cons list about whether you should
Can I just be honest and say I’ve never been that interested in Radiohead or am I gonna be crucified?
Oh mannn I love this. Not the biggest Thrice fan ever but this is shaping up to be my favorite stuff they've put out in a while.
I agree, to me these feel like a progression from the Palms/Deeper Wells sound. Like RSE starts with a more-elegant (or at least less-cheesy) synth part similar to "Only Us" and then transitions into something like "Blood on Blood" and "In This Storm". And "Scavengers" is fairly similar to some of the bluesy-rock stuff they've done on the past few albums (even going back to Beggars, but closer to what they've done with that sound on the last two).
I like all of the albums a lot minus a few tracks. Palms opens poorly for me. Don’t love any of the first 3 tracks. Enjoy the rest. I’d sub in anything off deeper wells onto Palms. Stumbling west is my jam.
My least favorite album by them is by far To be Everywhere is to be Nowhere, I love Palms as a whole but can't believe they put a song like Hold Up a Light on the album.
