East and West are linked though, so having similar artwork may be intentionally tying the “Horizons” albums. Think back to Alchemy index
Also gonna guess it’s a b-side considering it hasn’t even been a year since H/E was released, they’re releasing it just prior to their tour with Bayside in support of this album, and it has an acoustic version of Scavengers
I am far more interested in the musical direction this takes than the lyrical/vocal, which isn't always the case with music for me.
Great track from them. Thrice has always had better b-sides than some of the individual tracks from those respective album sessions so this just continues the trend.
They did an ama 2 weeks ago and Dustin said they were recording tracks for a very unique non-Horizons related project that should be out next year. Someone also asked if West would have a different sound than East and Dustin said it probably will but they won't know for sure until they start making it. Sounds like West was put on hold for the time being. New song is probably a b-side from East.
Love the song, and I really like the chorus. Gave me Touche Amore vibes for some reason I can't quite describe.
The chorus gives me Gatsbys American Dream vibes. The whole song kind of does with the way it's structured. And here's what Dustin said about in their IG post so yes, it's a b-side: “Dead Wake is a tune we were working on during the Horizons/East sessions, but hadn’t completed. I’ve always been fascinated by songs that only have one chord progression, but feel expansive and varied through the use of shifting melodies and layers, and we wanted to play with that format here.” - Dustin
I'm not mad at this, but weird that he said Horizons/West wouldn't be far off and now saying they haven't started making it. I wonder if the unique project was what started as Horizons/West, but they decided it was too different from East to have any sort of connection.
