NOFX is a hugely influential band in the punk scene and considering where Thrice came from it’s not shocking. Thrice has covered NOFX before live, Linoleum. I posted the video because it’s Thrice related with Dustin doing vocals. Mikey’s cover series does brings all sorts musicians together to play punk or other scene classics. NOFX is a polarizing band on this site so let’s not ruin this thread. I’m just pointing out that Dustin did a cover and to acknowledge he has before for those who didn’t know.
As a formerly large fan of NOFX, I'm always happy to hear covers by other bands & artists that I like. I need to give this album another listen. I have been neglecting it because of all the other music I love and spend time listening to it is due another spin! Perhaps more than just one.
It's not self-promo, I couldn't care less about the views. I put the videos here because I think some fans of the band might like them. I also think that they can help people who like Thrice and are learning to play the bass (which is one of the biggest purposes of the channel). Cheers.
Post the Deftones ones coward! I honestly really enjoy watching your vids because every other cover video on YT has the song playing very loudly over the mix. I can actually hear you, and your playing which is great.
I'll have to post them on the Deftones forum so that no one here scolds me. Here's a little taste, though: Glad you dig the videos, that's the whole point!
Unrelated to the new album, but I had a few Eye Alaska songs come on and it made me wonder what ever happened with the Chase and Dustin Kensrue project they were working on? I’m obviously most excited to hear more new Thrice, but I wonder if they’ll ever put something out since they seem to have worked on something. I guess being brothers you can’t really rule anything out in the future.
I’ve wondered about that too. I remember it being mentioned once by Dustin on like a podcast. I remember him saying something like it would be electronic? I could be wrong though.
There was a photo that was posted of the two of them working on computers in what looked like a tour bus or some kind of cramped space. Caption was something about them working on a project. Guessing it was Palms Tour. Wonder if they finished, vaulted, put off or just remains incomplete.
I can safely say this is my favorite since Beggars. The “what if I just let go?” part on Still Life sends me.
It just keeps growing on me. I don't listen to it frequently but when I do, it gets better and better. I'm sure not overplaying it and giving it that space to grow has helped.
FYI for people going to the Thrice/Touche tour (yeah I know it's almost over) but mask-wearing was pretty abysmal at the show last night in Seattle. Some convos on reddit makes it seem like it's been even worse elsewhere specifically on this tour. I've been to a bunch of shows recently and it was by far the worst, I'd say 40-50% of the crowd did not have a mask on the entire show. I know people's opinions vary, especially when vaccination is required (as it was last night, no tests allowed), but it really pissed me off that the venue wasn't enforcing the statewide mask mandate. I wish I had known before going, so fair warning to everyone.
Then I guess it's not a coincidence that Self Defense Family has to drop off the tour due to a positive test.
