its the hardest thing you normies cant even imagine you wouldnt be able to cope with it. its so lonely my gf left. my car broke down. covid happened. taco bell gutted their menu.
So far for me it's Scavengers >>>>> Summer Set Fire >>>> Robot Soft Exorcism Scavengers is just indescribably amazing the way it makes an unconventional time signature catchy. Robot Soft Exorcism is by far the best lyrically but a little weak musically to me. But all around excited for the album.
Finally got a chance to listen to the new song. I didn’t really vibe with it on my first listen as much as I did the other two. I’m sure as I listen more, I’ll find more to connect with (I usually do with Thrice songs). But just based on first impressions, this is my least favorite of the three.
isolation. shame. why you so dramatic? taco bell brought back potatoes. thrice is here and they wont pack it up no matter how much it seems that they should at this point. its all in good fun.
From my perspective, Thrice works best when you work chronologically through their discography from Illusion of Safety. Some of the later albums are more polished and accessible, but seeing their progression from To Awake and Avenge The Dead to Stand and Feel Your Worth to The Weight to their post-hiatus material is damn impressive. It probably helps that Thrice was also my introduction to a lot of the punk/metal stuff I listen to nowadays so that early material is a bit more special to me than some of their later work even though the later stuff is objectively more well refined.
First broad thoughts in this weeks newsletter. Less about songs, more about context with the rest of their catalog and vibe.
I like reading Thrice thoughts, thanks. Since there was some debate about it, do you think they made the right call by opening with "Color of the Sky?" They had "Scavengers" in that slot for the longest time.
I thought it was they wanted CotS to be the single, and that was the debate. Didn’t know it was about where they went in the track list. Could be wrong.
Question: Since physical releases come out in October, there probably won't be any "drip drip" this week, right?
Most things don't "leak" these days, they typically show up early once they're available on release day in another country, usually NZ since it's 16 hours ahead of the East Coast in the US. I believe most, if not all, of the advances are watermarked and so don't typically get leaked.
