New song is great. So much good music coming out this Fall. My first intro to Thrice was downloading songs off Limewire. I downloaded Music Box, listened to it, loved it soo much, then looked up Thrice's myspace to find they were releasing an album called the Alchemy Index I & II. Found it at Walmart of all places, and the rest is history. Once I heard the beginning of Firebreather, I was hooked. One of my favorite albums of all time to this day.
Alright. I gotta ask. Best album to get into Thrice? Not entirely aware of their catalogue besides TAITA and song "Hurricane".
Vheissu, Beggars and To Be Everywhere Is To Be Nowhere. Vheissu kind of is the bridge album from what they were doing to what they are now so it has elements of both. Beggars is probably their best album as a whole and TBEITBN is their best comeback album thus far and shows they still got it. Every album and EP since Illusion of Safety gets regular listens from me. Just the order I’d go if you want a quick idea.
New song: dig it. First song that made Thrice for me: after catching All That's Left and maybe Stare at the sun on TV, looked em up and Vheissu was close to coming out and hit me heavy. Early faves maybe Atlantic and Of Dust and Nations but it's the whole thing really. Sometimes skipping Image to start off more chill, or starting from Like Moths for the finishers. Often skipped Music Box which resonated less. Best album to start: hard as hell question. Beggars is a good choice, but honestly I think people should start with TIOS or TAITA and go chronologically to get their minds blown at the evolution especially to Vheissu. Their growth is what made them so special to me.
It's cool that they can now re-embrace their post-hardcore roots. They spent a lot of time running from them, but the dueling screams really served this song's ending. I'm glad we got an ending to a song that was more in line with the wild structures of Vheissu. Once you hit the bridge, you have to be prepared for anything. I've missed that quality in their music.
Plenty of good answers to this already, and I'll chime in to agree with Beggars as the best execution of their current sound, and Vheissu as the peak of their creativity from years past. Alchemy Index is a bit lengthy, but bridges those two records well, and would likely be a good precursor to Horizons as they return to more "conceptual" albums. Those four together cover the essence of what makes Thrice so excellent. Jealous that you get to dig in for the first time!
beggars was the second album leak i ever downloaded lol. common existence earlier that year was the first.
