Please give me a full album of this. THIS is the blend of new thrice and Vheissu-era thrice i've been looking for

I'm jealous of their use of odd time signatures.

I dig that these last two singles have leaned into the aggression a little more. Good stuff.

always happy to have more thrice. that said, I feel like they've gotten super recycled in verse melodies. would love to hear more range and more interesting melodic vocal progressions. double that said, I like this more than any of the songs on horizons/east and palms, so this is definitely a step in the right direction for my ears personally!

  6. I feel you on this.

Also, as expertly as Thrice has utilized 5/4 over the years, this song seems like one of their most phoned-in efforts to play in 5, sticking to the simplest pattern possible with the drum groove, vocal rhythms, and guitar playing, for a large majority of this song. I think the song's fine overall, but it falls very short of the standard set by "Hold Fast Hope," "The Whaler," and "Words in the Water."

Also, hi Kyle :peace: Hope you're doing well!

Oh man, Beyond the Pines is so good though. I think I liked Horizons / East the best of the 3 post-hiatus albums (The Color of the Sky, Scavengers, Dandelion Wine are incredible), even though TBEITBN has the strongest standalone songs.

Agreed! Would like a little more variety as well. The element(s) records were, for me, a great diverse set of songs that allowed the band to strip down their sound on some tracks while adding more atmosphere on others. They don't need another "concept" album, (all of their albums are conceptual in nature) but a little more variety would be nice. Shit, even throw in a 8 minute song or something. For example, Jimmy Eat World throwing in a song like "Invented" or " Pass the Baby", songs that just blow your hair back. Take some chances dudes! (admittedly, "Beyond on the Pines" is a decent example of this)

Hey man! Long time! Hope you're crushing as well!

And agreed on 5/4. They really have set a baseline for post-hardcore bands to execute on 5/4. GRANTED there are really so many places you can hit the snare in a 5/4 groove without modulating and subdivisions but still. I think the intro, pre-choruses and bridge rhythmically are interesting counterparts to the song though!

  11. the song has definitely grown on me since my original comment. I still don’t love it, but I agree that they do some way more rhythmically interesting things on the bridge than I had noticed in my initial listen.
