Thou: Umbilical review – one of the finest metal albums of the past decade

 

house of ideas has a ridiculously satisfying pay off on an album of otherwise instantly gratifying songs. extremely sick move with that one. the sequencing here is something else entirely. this is the kind of album that makes me wish I still wrote album reviews because it’s so interesting and hits me on such a primal level I could speak about it for days and I’m only really beginning to digest it after three or four listens and zero with the lyrics (though I could take a wild guess about what the subject matter is and probably be right) but sonically this thing is on another level for me. the year has been stacked so far especially when it comes to heavy music but I think this is every bit as good and notable as the new knocked loose album which is my runaway album of the year
