I was so mad about Jane's arc that I wasn't even paying attention to the acting, just personally hate the whole noble sacrifice trope plus Thor confronting his toxic masculinity and emotional unavailability worked so well on its own it didn't need her as a plot device
I agree on being bummed about the sacrifice trope, but based on the post credits she will absolutely be back somehow.
Didn’t like this very much. Tonally all over the place, random shit for the sake of randomness, actors doing some extremely heavy lifting for underwritten arcs, and some actively annoying parts. I did, however, really enjoy the Uncle Thor stuff at the very end. It was the only part of the movie where the humor felt natural and the story not labored.
This was solid marvel fun. All the humor hit for me and i think it added some interesting carry over elements for phase 4. Not the best, but certainly upper mid tier.
what was random? I think there was a ton of shit crammed in at the beginning but I don’t remember anything feeling random.
Upon further thought, I think I mean the story beats. The editing in the first half is bizarre, often throwing us into scenes halfway through them or cutting from like 1 second of coverage to an extreme close up.
Saw this yesterday and don't think I'm gonna go to the theater for a marvel movie for a while after this. Pretty disappointed with this overall. The comedy, which I loved in Ragnarok, didn't land once for me here and most of the action stuff was just ok outside of the opening battle with the guardians which was great. All went downhill from there for me. Most of this felt very very forced. I don't know if they even knew what movie they were trying to make. Also this may be the one time I say an mcu movie needed to be longer. Bale just wasnt in it enough to be impactful for me. I mean really just one scene of him killing gods would've made sense to me in a movie about a guy who kills gods.
I thought this was a pretty solid movie overall. Storyline was pretty good; they reviewed a lot which was nice for someone like me who forgot a lot of Thor's story despite digging Ragnarok. I thought there was humor, romance, action. Use of color has been great for the last 2 Thors. I love getting Jane and Gor's origins back-to-back in the beginning and Thor wrestling with his own shortcomings. It was fun and felt like i was watching a comic book. Those are my only expectations for a superhero film and frankly it seems that's a lot to ask at times. This one delivered, though. Better than Strange. Anyone notice the eternals head getting smashed outside the infinity gate? Also, the eternity wish-granter galaxy was shaped like Galactus, right?! i kept waiting for Galactus to bust into the movie and it never happened.
For the people that say the humor worked for them, what is your brand of humor? I didn’t find any jokes in this that were aimed at adults, it felt like all the jokes were written with kids in mind. It felt too juvenile, and yea, I realize this is a comic book film.
I haven't even seen the movie yet and I find this needlessly antagonistic. You've now put people who enjoyed the film in a box labeled "enjoys things aimed at kids", and told them to convince you otherwise. Seems like a dick move.
