I dunno, the last Taika Waititi movie I saw was a little over two and a half years ago, which came two years after the one before. And, I personally respond well to his mix of tones, though I get why not everyone does. So, I certainly don’t need a break from him, lol. Maybe I’d feel different if I watched his (apparently quite good) television work and suffered through shit like Free Guy, I’d feel different? Some of this probably goes down to how willing you are to roll with silliness and real emotion at the same time. That’s also the sticking point with the much better Guardians 2, which I maintain is the pinnacle of the Marvel Studios formula but some people really hate. I’ve held tragedy and dumb humor hand-in-hand many times in real life, so what Gunn & Waititi do typically doesn’t feel that disparate. Only Asgard’s destruction in Ragnarok and some of the levity here when the children were kidnapped felt off; the rest was enhanced by the mix of emotions. But, if that’s not your thing, idk, I get it. We all got different personalities and preferences.
I feel the same in general. One of the things I rather enjoy about Japanese anime is the mood whiplash factor of going from silly hijinks into serious business and back again within the span of minutes. Still looking forward to seeing this movie at some point in the near future.
Just saw this. It’s a watered down Ragnarok. Visually it was good, but the comedy didn’t hit the same and unfortunately that’s what the movie relied on. 6.7/10
Taika is great and I've yet to see a property from him that I outright dislike outside of Wellington Paranormal due to how dry its humor is
I thought Jane explaining how wormholes worked was going to have some payoff in the end. Like I thought she was going to wormhole her way to Thor to save him or something.
The point of the worm hole scene (other than some small gags) was her not wanting to feel useless, withering away slowly in her sickness.
I haven't seen the film yet, but I read about this on TV Tropes, so correct me if I'm wrong: is the Jane scene about her talking about Einstein-Rosen bridges? Cause wouldn't that just be a reference to the first Thor movie when they were discussing the Bifrost? Pretty sure it was called an Einstein-Rosen bridge in that movie when Jane was trying to understand how it worked.

Honestly that this was decent. Just the tonal whiplash was too much at times. Gorr and Thor just feel like they’re in completely different movies.
Is that really from this movie? lol It’d be nice if they started treating visual effects people properly, another reason that company blows overall. Love seeing shit like this:
