Leaving for this shortly. I wonder if I will like this more because I’m not a huge Ragnarok fan or if I will hate it way more.
But for real that was a ton of fun. That black and white battle was visually stunning. Humor was good throughout. Bale and Portman killed it.
My favorite Marvel Studios film is Guardians 2, followed by Ragnarok and the other Guardians. My favorite movies based on Marvel properties since Black Panther are Into the Spider-Verse, the two Venoms, Multiverse of Madness, and this. And, I’ve liked every movie I’ve watched that Taika Waititi has directed. Mileage will certainly vary with this thing’s sense of humor and fluctuating tone. I don’t think every bit works. But, the aesthetic, heart, themes, and much of the silliness worked well for my sensibilities. As someone who doesn’t care about The Marvel Cinematic Universe but still likes this genre and a lot of these characters and creatives, I left this (delightfully short) adventure quite satisfied.
Immensely in the first half. Think Ragnorak humor if half of the jokes in it ended with a silent theater. Second half changes course and is better.
Teases of future movies are typically the worst part of Marvel movies, but I'm glad Taika Waititi was the one to introduce Hercules. Dude had exactly the right kind of bare hairy chest for the character. Hopefully he returns in a future Taika project so that he can make him a hot, bisexual himbo.
