dang I missed the last round despite having a whole weekend to vote lol I'll cast my vote soon for this round
Another low turnout, but it's time to move on. Round Three Final Totals: Joyride (Omen) - 0 Door To Door Cannibals - 3 Young Wicked - 3 Enemies - 0 ------------ Final Round: Door To Door Cannibals vs. Young Wicked
Man, I missed it again lol. I need to pay attention. Honestly, I'm surprised Door To Door made it this far. I think it's their worst opener by far. I'm going with Young Wicked. I think I realized what my problem with this album is. Pete does a lot more screaming on this one than the other albums, and as a result there are far less memorable vocal melodies and choruses. There also seems to be a distinct lack of riffs. Of course, there's nothing wrong with this approach. That's part of what Chevelle does, it's just not the part of Chevelle that interests me.
I think this album is very bass heavy while also going to back to some Tool worship that was very present in their debut. This is a top three album of theirs for me and I spin it all the time.
Waaatttt, this song rips! It can't be their worst opener, the definitive list of album openers ranked was posted earlier in the thread:
I never really connected with this album much. I'll echo a lot of what @theagentcoma said - less memorable melodies, choruses, and riffs. Anyway, my favorite song from this album is Young Wicked. I don't dislike any of the songs, but I don't think there are any songs other than Young Wicked that would make it into a playlist of my favorite Chevelle songs. Having said all that...I haven't seen them live since this album came out so maybe seeing some of these songs in person would change my perspective.
I think it is far less "commercial" than the majority of their discography. I also think this album didn't get a lot of press surrounding it's release. With that being said, I think its better than Vena Sera and Sci-Fi Crimes where they seem to have lost a bit of steam.
I don't know exactly how I'd rank their albums but separating them by tiers it'd probably look something like this: Wonder What's Next This Type Of Thinking (Could Do Us In) ----------- Vena Sera La Gargola ----------- Sci-Fi Crimes Hats Off To The Bull The North Corridor ----------- Point #1
I'd probably be close to yours but maybe combine tiers: Great: Wonder What's Next This Type Of Thinking (Could Do Us In) Vena Sera La Gargola ----------- Good: Sci-Fi Crimes Hats Off To The Bull The North Corridor Point #1
Top Tier: Wonder What's Next This Type of Thinking (Could Do Us In) The North Corridor Good: La Gargola Hats Off to the Bull Meh: Point #1 Sci Fi Crimes Vena Sera (That's not to say they aren't good but I personally don't revisit them)
I just never connected to it. I felt like they went down a rabbit hole of a watered down version of themselves but I think they bounced back very well.
From what I have heard of their discography: Vena Sera La Gargola Sci-Fi Crimes This Type Of Thinking Wonder What's Next Point #1 And I still need to listen to Hats Off to The Bull and The North Corridor
That’ll do it for The North Corridor! Final Totals: Door To Door Cannibals - 3 Young Wicked - 2 12 Bloody Spies is up next!
