it's a little long imo and some songs don't work but My Hit and Run and Palm Reader are two of the best songs in the discog
I actually really like Our Bande Apart. Dust Storm and Funeral Singers are great additions to the live set. Also Screamer is a top 3 3EB album. Just skip 2X Tigers.
Agreed, on Screamer I think they sound totally invigorated and Our Bande Apart just feels...boring? Which is historically a word I would never use to describe Third Eye Blind. And its even more fascinating because any interview Jenkins gives, he talks about how much he loves Our Bande Apart and how its his favorite album and its just like, really? This one? I could understand him saying that about Screamer - despite the fact that yes, it is incredibly front-loaded and songs like "2X Tigers" are a big whiff - but OBA feels like a head-scratcher in their discography. But I really like "Like A Lullaby" and am curious to hear where their next album is gonna go.
I would be surprised if I've listening to Our Band Aparte more than 10 times, total. It just never grabbed me at all.
OotV has a lot going against it for me - kicking Cadogan out was moronic, and the production is quite bad - but I still revisit "Hit and Run," "Faster," and "Company" occasionally. I've still never given any of the releases after that a serious listen.
I don't think Jenkins believes anything he says in an interview. It's all posturing to make himself sound smart and hip.
OOTV is awesome Dopamine is very good as well Everything post-Dopamine is a huge step down for me, HUGE I'd love to believe he has another great album in him, but I would bet $$ it will just be another version of the last album in terms of quality
Whatever is next has to be regular/classic 3EB. The last one was the experiment with genres and different textures Jenkins isn’t really a master of. If he does that again, that’d be really disappointing.
I honestly think that for the number of records in the 3EB discography, there is a shockingly high level of quality. Seven albums and three EPs in almost 30 years and, personally, I believe only one of those releases is a true miss - that's pretty damn good. I too wanna show some love for Out Of The Vein - my 3EB hot take is this is the second best album - Dopamine - my other hot take is that "Something In You" is a top 10, if not top five, 3EB song - and the We Are Drugs EP, which I think is fantastic and, again, like Screamer, an example of the band sounding totally invigorated. Same as their cover of Joy Division's "Disorder." I wouldn't count them out. I want to believe they've got another great album in them.
Spent the morning listening to Ursa Major and Dopamine. Still love both of those, but haven’t really liked anything since.
I’ve found something to enjoy in each release except Band Aparte. I should give that one another try. This band’s discog though is pretty incredible. Those first three albums are quite a run from any band.
Out of the Vein might be my favorite album overall, at least aside from S/T, with Blue rounding out the top 3, and Dopamine not far behind at #4.
OOTV Blue Ursa S/T We Are Drugs Bande Dopamine Screamer OOTV absolutely rules. It's lyrically the most relevant to me, and I think there's only one miss on the whole thing. Those are my rankings, split into tiers. I suspect my Ursa ranking may get notice, but it came out at a really pivotal point in my life and I have really positive memories correlated with that album on repeat. 'Drugs' is insanely underrated, and I noticed it's now classified as an LP when I swear it was released as an EP. Some close people in my life love Dopamine but it never fully clicked with me. I really like a lot of songs on it, but for whatever reason, I never reach for it first. Screamer is just a bit of a bore for me. There are tracks that aren't bad, but even the best ones wouldn't make a Top 30 or Top 40 of 3EB tracks.
To be fair, those four albums are all great so I don't blame anyone for not being able to choose between them. I will not be hearing any dissenting opinions at this time.
I think Ursa is a pretty far cut below the first three, personally (and I like that album), but I’d accept any ranking of the first three.
