I should've known by the cover art that this was produced by EV. I feel like such a fool! Wonder if they just did a single or if maybe an ep/album is on the way.
Well based on what he’s said seeing them the last 2 years, the new album is done except for lyrics. Hopefully he got them knocked out and the album is finally coming.
It’s short and kinda non-distinct but it does have some self-titled/Blue-coded melodies going on. Sorta digging it.
I now remember the funny comment SJ said to us the night we all hung out together. We were with one of the band crew talking about how his dream is to do something with NASA or space related, so we were talking about space and whatnot. Stephen overhears us and says something along the lines of "yeah my record label is called mega collider" which I guess he was trying to relate to the space discussion, but we just kind of all looked at each other and then said "ok" and he walked away. It was really funny because I'm assuming he saw how vibrant our discussion was and he wanted to get in on the convo but it just missed.
I haven't liked most of these late-stage Jenkins acoustic numbers ("One In Ten" is #1 on the hate list with a bullet), but this is nice. But it is a bit jarring for me seeing them on video now in that while I've known the versions of 3EB I've loved are long since dead and buried, seeing the current version really just feels like a decent cover band with Stephen Jenkins fronting it. Just feels really alien for me watching this group play Jumper (which Jenkins should have gone with a song at a lower register given his vocal issues, as that was a very rough listen).
Listened to Ursa Major yesterday for the first time in years. It’s still pretty great. Excited to revisit Dopamine soon because I’ve always loved that one too.
He’s had to finish lyrics for this album for several years now I believe. He for sure mentions an album being almost done but needing lyrics in an interview he did in 2023.
Stephan has openly admitted to delaying the completion of every record since Out Of The Vein because he can't bring himself to finish the lyrics. The dude is just a perfectionist, I guess! Hard agree. Late(r) period Third Eye Blind is actually pretty awesome. Ursa Major is great all the way through, as is Dopamine ("Something In You" has become one of my all time fave 3EB songs), the We Are Drugs EP is FANTASTIC (as is their bizarre covers EP Thanks For Everything), at least half of Screamer fuggin rocks and I really see the only true weak link to be Our Bande Apart (I just thought it was kind of boring, a word I would NEVER use to describe 3EB's music before). "Like A Lullaby" is shockingly good. I can't wait for Stephan to finish these damn lyrics so we can get a whole record of this caliber.
Holy shit!! Third Eye Blind r doing an one off London show in October.. the bad news is that it's their only UK/European show of 2025
Yeah true then they toured in 2015 and then 2019 and haven't toured since.. I been a fan for years and I had no clue they even did shows over here until we was all in lockdown during the pandemic and I was on setlist.fm and I thought I check of they ever toured over here and then I saw the dates and I was like oh fucking hell can't believe I missed out!
