OOTV is about a hundred times better than Ursa lol

 

I love Screamer. That album was pretty immediate for me and I just have sone great memories attached to it.

 

"it's done but also I'm behind on lyrics" - that's a classic SJ quote right there in multiple ways

Ursa is great, with several great tunes, but the tunes that are not great tend to blend together, there are 3-4 identical acoustic strummies on that album that go nowhere. Dao of St Paul, Bonfire, Sharp Knife and Water Landing are classic 3EB

Dopamine is not great. Shipboard Cook and Back to Zero are both standouts but a lot of the album just has this wimpy sound to it, needs more muscular guitars and less aimless poppy vibes

Screamer has a couple great tracks in Tropic Scorpio and Ways, but an awful lot of filler and mediocrity

Our Bande Apart doesn’t even feel like an album as much as an experimental EP. Can’t even believe they’re still bothering with tracks like Again

 

Excited to see what the setlist for this tour looks like.

 

And to stay on topic, Ursa Major is great. Most of Dopamine is good. Don't care about Screamer, less about Our "Bande" Apart

 

But what's the verdict on the We Are Drugs and Thanks For Everything EPs?

 

"Company of Strangers" is top tier 3EB

 

We are Drugs is decent enough, better than anything else post-Dopamine

 

Weightless is so good

 

We Are Drugs is a perfect EP. 1-2 great 3EB tracks and the rest are fun/weird.

Their last record feels like it could have been a decent EP if they cut 2-3 of the least interesting songs. It is oddly small and “indie” sounding for 3EB so it did capture my curiosity for a few weeks when it came out. I think it was supposed to be Stephen’s Folklore where he mined the cooler younger indie music he’s a fan of and tried to do them 3EB style but the end result wasn’t as transformative or quality as it could have been.

 

It felt really pretentious, and that's saying something for SJ

 

The last record was their covid record and they all recorded their parts separately. I thought it was pretty good still. The live versions are great.

We Are Drugs is much better than it has any business being

 

as much as Our Bande Apart was a weird mess, Dust Storm is one of the best songs in the second half of their discog

 

i pretty much like everything this band does, lol

Something in You is a standout track, but even that song ends shortly after it comes to life and gets interesting. Either way, I've liked Dopamine the most out of anything they've released since Out of the Vein. I don't even consider Dopamine a particularly great 3EB album. It certainly could use a bit more punch in some places, perhaps some more memorable riffs/instrumentation, etc among other flaws. However, the songwriting just just solid from beginning to end imo.

 

My favorite song on Bande is Funeral Singers - which is a cover. The rest is pretty ehhh

 

Facts. I'd say Dopamine is too.
