One of my favorite songs ever I think. So many great anthemic lines “back down the bully to the back of the bus, cause it’s time for them to be scared of us”
it also manages to be very catchy and i love the way the strings sound and the reverbed-out multi-tracked sitar parts and everything
Yeah, that's the version I usually hear from my library. I listened back to UM last night for the first time in probably ten years. A lot better than I remember. I think it just came out during a weird time in my life. I totally forgot about the rap at the end of the Summertown. That was a strange decision. Water landing is the shit though.
I don't mind the actual version at all, i just REALLY like this demo version. I love UM and never really got the hate..kinda chalked it up to some of the political content? I dunno. They have other demos out there that are amazing like Invisible and Second Born and Now I don't know. Really great songs.
I remember a lot of drama leading up to the release on some 3EB related forums. You could sense that Tony was about to be gone. Certain songs were scrapped in favor of others like "1 in 10". Carnival Barker not having lyrics and then being cut off as the drums kicked in. I think some demos leaked and people were up in arms that there we're lyrical changes. It all seemed a little exhausting. All that mixed with whatever was going on in my life at the time left me with weird memories of the record. But it's pretty solid overall.
ahh i had a totally different experience and listened well after all of that happened. I pretty much got a 3eb Best of Compilation in 2012 or so and then ended up going back and listening to EVERYTHING they had ever done over and over the next 9 years haha
Some dude I met on tour right before this came out said he had 18 demos but I only ever saw four surface…
Summer Town was my Nike+ powersong (if any runners remember that) for so long. OOTV is my clear #1 but Craig's rankings on page before this were pretty spot on, including Screamer thoughts. New single is ALWAYS welcome to my ears and as many of you have said - get weird!
