not to upsell! Just in case I know someone who doesn't get one. It's happened before, most recently last year with the band that shall not be named
Listened to OOTV today. I honestly wasn't really too impressed with the beginning of the album but I think it really hit its stride from My Hit and Run and on. Definitely gona need some more listens to develop an opinion on it.
I thought they made similar songs on their previous albums that were better. I think the second half expands their sound a bit more. Like i said I need more listens!
You know what never gets mentioned, Ursa Major Bonfire, Dao of St Paul, Sharp Knife, Water Landing, Can You Take Me, all top tier 3EB, even Don’t Believe A Word is great It’s a shame that One In Ten-About To Break-Summer Town is such a stretch of flaming turds Whoever in the studio suggested trimming The Red Summer Sun by like a minute is absolutely mental, that last minute is one of the best minutes in 3EB’s catalogue
woah, there's an extended Red Summer Sun? I thought the last minute was just the coda of Darwin, is there a totally different version?
The coda of Darwin isn’t a coda, it’s the last minute of TRSS that inexplicably fades out in the album track
‘Flaming turds’ is a stronger stance than I’d take, but that string of songs is not the strongest. Though I love a lot of Ursa Major, I do think it’s the most inconsistent of their records, which I think is why the good on it gets generally buried. A shame, too - aside from the ones you mentioned, “Monotov’s” is one of the most heartbreakingly gorgeous songs in their catalogue. Also, I’m gonna be That Guy: I don’t get the love for “Bonfire.” It’s fine, but not top tier 3EB.
Bonfire could use a stronger chorus but the main acoustic riff is an absolute gem and so is the laidback vibe My problem with Monotov’s Private Opera is that it sounds so similar to Why Can’t You Be and About to Break, and by track 11 I don’t want another acoustic driven track with the exact same key and chords as the last 3 I do like the “everything changed in a day” vocal refrain
Also can we post really good covers of 3eb songs in here? I heard a band on here cover Losing A Whole Year, it was faster paced and somewhat emoish and fantastically done and I’ve never been able to find it again
