I'm so-so on both Dopamine and We Are Drugs as a whole, but Shipboard Cook and Company of Strangers are both tip-top tier 3eb songs to me.
Americana is my least favorite 90s Offspring album lol Ixnay and Smash FTW! Overall a pretty solid list. I would throw in some late 90s Our Lady Peace haha
I know they already get compared to 3EB a lot, and they're certainly a band that most people in here have already heard and made up their mind one way or the other about, but I'd strongly recommend checking out The Maine's new record if you haven't yet or were not planning on it. Great pop songs and some legitimate 3EB vibes.
Yep, tons of the wah stuff going on with the harmonics and such. Razor sharp octave chords and leads. Some other cool stuff like the pickup switch technique/tremolo thing that gets that cool fluttering sound too.
I tried songs off American Candy and truly found them terrible, not sure I'm going to come around to that band
Dang. Yeah I can see see how they're not for everybody, so I get that. New record is easily their best, but it def shares a very similar vibe to the last one. For whatever reason they don't seem like a band I would imagine you actively disliking haha, that surprises me
I actually used to like them! I liked Can't Stop, Won't Stop for what it was (probably wouldn't like it anymore), but Black and White really felt like an attempt to "change" and "mature" but thought it was trash, then Forever Halloween is just unlistenable for me. Listened to "English Girls" from American Cnady, and whatever the other single or two were, and it all just sounds like LOOK WE MATURED to me. I get the 3EB vibes, and 90s vibes, but only in the sense of it being a poor knockoff of that sound. I dunno, maybe someday it'll change, but it's like the b-rate version of what already exists and is awesome to me
Listening to "Bad Behavior" right now, musically I can get behind it but boy do I think his voice doesn't match the music, without him I'd be more into this
- The opening of "Don't Come Down" is super "Never Let You Go" - "Taxi" has a super "Jumper" vibe with the little guitar lead before the first verse and the screeching wah solo before the last chorus - The solo in "Do You Remember?" - "Bad Behavior" has that little lick that is the same melody as "where did YOU go" in "Forget Myself"
Haven't listened to the new Maine album or AC, but that's some heaping praise haha. I'll be digging into that record. I hope it's true, but I get a little nervous when current bands get compared to some of those big '90s bands.
Def agree with that, a lot of times I feel it doesn't quite live up. Ironically enough, the 3EB album that I think it sounds closest to didn't even come out in the 90's hahah. But it still has enough of that fun energy from 90's pop/rock that I think the comparisons are justified. Hope you enjoy it when you do check it out!
Whenever people ask for songs that sound like 3EB, I post these Everything about the guitars especially scream 3EB
I got done with my first listen a little bit ago. I can definitely see some of what you were saying. For a first listen, it was a pretty good album. I've been sort of marathon listening to stuff today so we'll see how stuff ages haha, but so far so good with that album.
underrated great 3EB songs, in my opinion: (there is nothing underrated on the debut album) Horror Show Ode to Maybe Slow Motion My Hit and Run (nobody likes this one but me, it seems) Wake For Young Souls Palm Reader Water Landing (and its predecessor, Break Me) Shipboard Cook (awesome) Dopamine Rites Of Passage Get Me Out of Here
nah "my hit and run" is awesome song i love from out of the vein that no one seems to rep for is "danger"
