Any idea if this is from the self-titled period?

I mean, it sure seems like it.

EDIT: Actually, I guess not, given that this SNL guitarist is 32.

I believe it's from the blue album period. It looks like quite a few of the bonus songs are actually from that album.

the demo of this has been floating around for years. its been a huge ask from the 3EB diehards for them to release a finished version of it. as one of them, i find this quite exciting.

i think its self-titled era. would make sense too with this being a 20th anniversary release of that record.

I thought the same thing but (and take this for what it's worth) the wikipedia entry for the blue album has this song listed as one of the scrapped b-sides for that album. Considering Slow Motion and Tattoo of the Sun are also bonus material it led me to believe that some of these other songs are also blue album. That being said, they easily could have been written during the self titled album and were then considered for the blue album later.

Can't wait for the first weekend in July. Seeing them play their S/T in its entirety at SPAC, and it's the first and last time i'll probably ever catch a TEB show. That album is in my Top 10 all time.

Yep. Slow Motion, Alright Caroline, Scattered, what became Ode to Maybe, and others from later records were around before S/T. They kinda floated around for a while. AC and Scattered were passed over for S/T and were in contention for Blue before they were passed over again. There was talk of them going onto Ursa Minor when that was still a thing but that never happened. There were reports of the band recording them but not being able to get the right sound so the songs went back into the vault.

Here are the demo tape track lists (thanks, TVCY) if anyone is interested. Looks like AC only shows up in the 1999 set but it's definitely pre S/T.

There's a couple new articles online about this song where SJ says it was written & scrapped in 97 while recording S/T.

Wake For Young Souls from 94?! Had no idea! Wow, that took awhile to get released properly. Love that tune though

These guys have a long history of sitting on songs for a while. The song that became "Water Landing" on Ursa Major started as another song called "Break Me" that was worked on for Out of the Vein. "Break Me" is a more traditional pop rock song with a catchy chorus so a lot of people were pissed about the change.

    Break Me

    Water Landing
