This is so gorgeous. The guitars on Dream Song wouldn't be out of place on an early Modest Mouse record.
this is great. awesome first listen. cool to see this getting some attention here. i doubt you'd really find this type of celebration for a band like this elsewhere. however it's interesting to me how users here select which small underrated bands to hype-up, either despite or because of their legacies. (this is mostly referring to the phenomenal American Analog Set reunion album that came out last week that didn't even break two pages--no reason really to compare the two records bc they're both excellent, but I just find it interesting)
Didn't see this one! Definitely going to throw this on today! only other place I've seen this album as celebrated as here is on sputnik
"Yes, I just need a little space, a little time, a little faith, and to tell myself the sky is still not falling." This is the good stuff.
Did this band at one point have a single with a really long, beautiful title that isn't on their bandcamp/streaming anymore? I feel like I remember it from the AP.net days but maybe it was someone else.
I'm really excited to listen to this, both albums and their EP are some of my favourites ever, but my mental state is not great and I know it will absolutely gut me hearing this
I hope you start to feel better soon friend album is proper gorgeous, and more sonically hopeful than their other work imo can't wait to hear your thoughts when you get around to it. take your time
thank you that's really lovely and nice to hear. we're def approaching the time of year where this band is on constant rotation for me anyway. In Excelsis Deo gets absolutely rinsed every December lol
Wow they did it. Absolutely worth the 10 year wait. Already know it'll be one of those albums I'll be playing for a long time to come.
I absolutely adore this album, been listening to it non stop today - the most I’ve loved a new album in a long while. However, listening to River straight afterwards, just reinforces the fact that it’s one of the best songs ever written.
I can vividly remember hearing “River” for the first time, late November 2013, in a shitty apartment I was living in Korea, and how it felt like I was hearing a completely different genre. It absolutely floored me, in a way that pretty much nothing has done since. There’s a handful of songs nearly as good as it on The Dark, Dark Bright, but barely anything that has that first impact as River.
Have not finished a first listen yet, need to spend more time. It’s good… but the mixing and production are a little disappointing.
I do wish the vocals weren't buried so deeply in the mix in some of the songs, and it sounded a little crisper (TDDB sounds absolutley perfect from that perspective). But, I think the songwriting is world class, and it's just so powerful and personal and the flow of songs is seemless. Its beautiful. Also, I can't complain too much about production/mixing, I love No Closer To Heaven haha. I'm so happy about how good this is. I think its out fireworksed Fireworks for my aoty.
ok got a little bit unsober to listen to this and it's of course incredible. just a really special band folks
