This album RIPS! I feel bad for the release timing, as they set it out in the wild in December of last year, but holy shit, this is gonna hit a sweet spot for a vast majority of this site. RIYL: Gaslight, Menzingers, Cold Years, heartland rock Favorite tracks: Famous Last Words, A Charmed Society, Somewhere Through The Night. But the whole thing is excellent. Check out @Craig Manning ’s review of it in his Best of 2023 review here. https://chorus.fm/blog/craig-mannings-top-albums-of-2023/ I can’t WAIT for more of this site to discover this in 2024.
Yes, this album rules! Such a weird record to release in December, though, both because most people close the book on a music year in November and because the songs scream "summer" to me. Excited to spin it a ton when the weather warms up.
I know you do a recap/revamp of past year rankings and sometimes add albums you missed in-year. I think this would make a ton of lists with that look back. @Jason Tate also included “Take a Ride” in the newsletter a bit ago.
It's very strange, after they were mentioned in the Q/A-thread, I checked them out on spotify, and had actually saved their 2021-album, but obviously forgotten to listen to it. This is very much a Cold Years kinda band, without the characteristic voice of Ross Gordon of course. 100% my cup of tea, can't wait to dive deep into this.
I’m gonna ride hard for both of these records in 2024. Cold Years teaser clips sound great. Here’s hoping it rips like this!
I've checked AP.net and chrous on a daily basis for the last 20 years but only posted once in the last decade. Had to end that streak with a huge thank you to Jason and Craig for recommending this record. Been listening to it nonstop for the last couple months and never gets old. This band deserves to be much bigger than they are and would be shocked if any TGA/Menzingers fan doesn't love this. Also, the last three songs on their first album is a great closing run (nice "darkness on the edge of town" reference on Swim).
The last track would be a massive closer at a live show. What do we have to do to get these guys and Cold Years over to America?
I know I’m half the posts in this thread but dammit, if you like TGA or Menzingers, you are denying yourself pleasure not listening to this record. The instrumentals are insane.
