Crazy how much I've come around to this because I was so wildly disappointed on first listen. Also, listening again right now and Dangerous is a great song. And an even better opener. But I still think it's the worst on here (speaks more to quality of the rest). I hope it's their set opener for this tour.
Kind of. The rest of their discography is a lot more restrained with virtually no samples. Their debut is a classic but Coexist is a lot more low-key.
I would say pretty much not at all. Way more sparse and introverted. Like, it's clearly the same band and with the knowledge of Jamie's work, it's easy to see how they got here. But it's quite sonically different.
I've never listened to any of Jamie's stuff, actually. Like I told Aaron, it definitely seems up my alley tho, so I'll be sure to work backwards
This is definitely their most upbeat record. Coexist is a totally different record....very quiet and mellow, one of my go-to homesick/rainy day albums.
i'd probably check out jamie's solo album first, and then the first xx album followed by the second. to me this album feels like a healthy mix of the first xx album and jamie's album.
Interrupting here a bit but I just saw this threat ha. Loved the album from the start but I like it even more now. Replica, Dangerous, Brave For You, I Dare You, and the singles are my favorites. I also went back to their other two albums for the first time in a while and fell in love with them again. Have tickets for Philly and NYC and it's first time seeing them, can't wait!
Sampha is support on first half of the NA tour (Apr. 15-May 6), Kelela on the second half (May 8-26). Incredible support, but I'm so jealous of anyone that gets Sampha on their date.
