I have a simple and fond adoration for this record. It is just so beautiful and it doesn't try to or have to be anything else. I've heard the song dozens of times but the lyrics to "On Hold" are really tearing me up right now. And every time I let you leave I always saw you coming back to me
Yeah so this held up great, transcendent record for them, giving Jamie more creative control is exactly what they needed to stay fresh
I'm not counting on it even being a thing ever. His influence was obviously felt here and I appreciate what they were doing, but after seeing him run wild on In Colour I couldn't help but be a little down. Really more about my expectations than this album itself.
Jamie obviously adds a lot to this band but really I think this record is their best because of the massive improvement in songwriting. I don’t think the band was really capable of writing songs as powerful as “On Hold” or “Say Something Loving” 5 years ago. I think they have definitely continued to work hard in the background while Jamie did his thing and it really shows.
Unrelated to I See You but if you're in London, The xx are doing a listening party for the tenth anniversary of 'xx'. Random ballot for entry. rsvp.thexx.info
Are they recording? I feel like they put this out, toured very briefly on it, and then disappeared. I need another one of their shows in my life.
They said recently that they are working on new music / would have something out this year. Wasn’t super clear if it meant solo projects or a new XX album. I could also definitely use another XX show, the j see you tour was so great.
Romy is doing a livestream on her IG in an hour. Says she’s got news and will be playing new songs. Wonder if we’re getting a solo record?
It is indeed a solo record. She says it's a lot more upbeat (and maybe less guitar driven?) and that it should be coming soon.
I think we knew this, buy confirmation all 3 are working on solo albums "All of The xx are working on solo projects," says Young Turks label boss
