i'm supposed to get my lp single today. excited to hear what he's been cooking for the last 100 years
it’s funny, I’ve been taking a lot of wisdom from charles’s post in a shadow sense. here is a person who made something great once but did not know how/when to let go, and the energy of deconstruction and overthinking literally spilled into the band itself and sabotaged the very thing he was trying to create. speaks a lot about creation to me. you can’t force something to be created that doesn’t want to. ties with other lessons i have learned personally. art is supposed to overflow from life and when life stagnates in service of art it is a distortion. your gifts aren’t supposed to be in enslaved in service of an egoic void! anyway i am grateful that this whole scenario was made public because i feel like we can all take lessons from it. cheers
i made this post seven years ago. here is to letting yourself become unrecognizable from your younger self as you grow older
They were on the bandcamp page for a hot minute so presumably they'll be restored on digital release day. But maybe they won't!! Lol
Thanks, for some reason no search was bringing it up. It's good stuff. I'm not a diehard Wrens guy, but I like the meadowlands and this stuff registers comparably good to me. The chimy guitar/bell sounding stuff jumping across the left and right speakers right around 3 min into the first song is sickk
This whole band divorce was messy and annoying but man I missed Charles voice. It’s too fucking bad it hasn’t graced more music.
this 4.5 leak is... absolutely amazing lol. like the projects are okay as they are but just put Leaves back to back with Old Death and they're suddenly incredible, I don't know why they didn't just release this back then. goddamn what a waste. this boy is exhausted (I'm the boy)
The leak really makes clear how much Charles' (admittedly somewhat insane) production style is the glue that keeps all that duelling material working together...it's a shame how things turned out Wrenswise but I'm excited to hear the rest of the album.
I know I've been pretty vocal in here about being very ~over~ Charles (or at least his public-facing persona). That remains 100% true. BUT "Old Death" is easily one of the best songs I've heard this year lol
