You don’t deserve me at my Everyone Choose Sides unless you can handle me at my 13 Months in 6 Minutes
charles really is proof positive that perfection is the enemy of good edit: it's a thread lol. of course it is.
Thankfully I don’t think you can’t read threads/replies anymore without an account so I don’t have to get mad at that lol I just hope we get some version of the wrens album that could have been in like 20 years or whatever
Charles posted a photo of a test pressing, album/project name announcement etc coming in October (allegedly). But yeah, it's real, folks.
"album 4.5 demo" (on soulseek) supposedly from 2014 has turned up recently (or is at least new to me). 18 tracks, 70:58, includes a bunch of the songs rerecorded for aeon station as well as versions of the few songs that have kicked around (reading ambiguity, crescent etc). I'm only on my first listen now. it's rough but....it's the goddamn wrens!
I've listened to it a few times. It's by far the most downbeat Wrens thing and I imagine the "real" "finished" album would have been trimmed down a bit as it's quite long. It also cements the need for Kevin and Charles' songs to bounce off each other - the relative simplicity/plain-spokenness of the Kevin songs contrasting with Charles' dense poetic yarns. Charles has been saying for a while to expect an album/project name announcement on Oct 6th (next Friday). Honestly, if it's real and cleans up his songs from this demo recording I would expect it to be at least pretty damn good, even if the overall direction things have taken leaves a bitter aftertaste. Also been enjoying the studio rat stories he's been sharing about on the Wrens' FB page about the making of The Meadowlands. in particular the creation of "She Sends Kisses" and learning that all the weird accordion-ish layers on that are actually heavily/weirdly treated guitars.
if I go look later on on Soulseek and it’s not there can you DM me a Dropbox or something? I’d die to hear the demo versions of the Aeon Station tracks.
From Charles on FB: "Hey, welcome to the "Week I've Waited For For About 20 Years" post - ha. Nothing major here quite yet, in this post/tweet per se, but here's what's coming up this week: This Friday, I'll be announcing the new 'band'/project (and so new social media(s)/website), new label, new record and 1st single, along with a bunch of nifty related goods&projects etc. all of which I'm sorta bamboozled are actually happening, but of which I'm very - and increasingly - psyched. And the vinyl of that first single (b/w two b-sides, no less) will be available to pre-order Friday as well. Bonkers, I know. This also happens to be the next official Bandcamp Friday, and after all these years of watching from sidelines, I've gotta admit that I'm more than a little happy to be participating. In the meantime, I'll be posting a few related things Tues-Thurs. this week (mental health stuff, finally addressing the band break-up a cool two years later (albeit fairly briefly), a couple other things), not so much as part of any album rollout but more while I briefly have folks' attention. Assuming that's of limited interest (which it prob. should be..ha), see you Friday... And thanks as always, charles"
