i'm into it. it doesn't jump out or attract huge attention on its own, but i feel like it totally grooves in the context of the record (esp given how it begins, prev song def leads right into this)
Yeah I can totally see it sounding great in the context of the record. It feels a little weird as the lead single but then I'm frequently underwhelmed by the first song a band releases. I think it's just a thing that tends to happen. I wouldn't be surprised if the next one is a real slammer. I still like it anyway.
But if you look back at Harmlessness "Jan 10th" was the single and with WhateverIfever it was "Picture of a tree that doesnt look okay"....both very strong songs imo. So I just found it extra odd to release a track like this first.
I still don't like picture of a tree so I'm not worried about this album. Band would never be able to live up to a first single like January 10 2014
Single didn't push the needle either way for me but I know better than to make assessments based off one song with this band.
I quite like the new song, LOVE the synth lead. I wouldn't be surprised if this album was a lot more direct/poppy and less spacey/moody/post-rock-y.
Personally hoping for some more songs in the same vein as Smoke & Felt. Easily my favorite song they've released to date.
Love the song, don't love the homophobic, sexist, transphobic, and just plain dumb comments on the video though. People are bad...
