Why is this band not good live?

 

they're p good live. didn't catch them on this tour, but this was the first time I've missed them since Harmlessness came out. I would've been interested in seeing how the stuff works out with all the horns, which I forgot they were trying out til recently

 

I've seen them 2 times in Lawrence in the last few years and they've been really good both times. Those recent live videos sound pretty good too, imo.

 

They’re excellent live, I never get the complaints. Dave oversings sometimes but that’s the only complaint

 

They are legit my fav live band lmao.

One of the things I appreciate the most is they always change up songs for the live setting , so even though I've heard heartbeat in the brain live like 10 times now there's always subtle differences.

Also just the way they layer all the instruments In a live setting is so damn impressive

 

Yeah I've seen them four times now and thought they played sloppy. Way too much going on and the flow of their set was just not good. Had a tough time discerning when one song ended amd the next began

 

finally, some actual critique. i can believe that

 

YUP YUP YUP 100% this is why they are amazing

 

It's just strange because I like them on record, but they just haven't clicked for me live I suppose

 

i don't have any problem with their ambient tuning wankery they did (which they've cut down on since nicole was kicked the fuck out) and all the members are just so good at their instruments, and the fact that the songs just SOUND so good when there are so many people just astounds me. as i said, dave sometimes just starts yelling when he doesn't need to but that's the only complaint i've ever had seeing this band live, i'd do it every night if i could

 

They definitely played a little bit looser the other night but they all seemed to be having a ball on stage. The band just seems happier now. Could be the venue sound, but each member could be heard clearly. Also, there isn’t much trimillo in the new stuff, so I don’t really get that complaint

 

yeah thats totally fair. my old room mate LOVED there recorded stuff but the one time he saw them live with me he felt pretty much the exact same way.
