That we’re getting a new TWY record and a new Early November record in the same year AGAIN (also happened in 2015) is almost going to be too much for me. It’ll be a battle of the titans for 2018 AOTY.
Ncth has the band's best song (Cigarettes and Saints), a top 5-10 TWY song (Cardinals) and almost no filler. I don't always dig the two "Song for" tracks but they're decent for sure. I honestly think if they can knock this next one out the park as well they will pass the Steven Hyden five album test.
NCTH is actually the album I return to most often, 'Cigarettes and Saints' and 'I Wanted So Badly to be Brave' are top five for me. I'm not sure how many bands have put together a four album run like TWY have, I love each and every record. They have earned the extremely high expectations for album five.
This is probably just wishful thinking, but does anyone think there is a chance a new album is announced and released right away in 2018? Maybe album announced 1/1/18, then released 1/5/18? The only reason I think that is a possibility is how big of a deal they are making about the 'See You in 2018' message on social media. They have changed all of their profile pictures and everything. Obviously the message means there will be an album at some point in 2018, but the rollout of the message just makes me curious. I would love for a new Wonder Years album to drop at midnight on New Years. Any thoughts?
Maybe they will announce the album and release a new single at the outset of 2018. A big roll out makes much more sense than a surprise drop, but its fun to dream.
yeah if we do get a single it will probably be in like 2 weeks or so. id say February is around when theyd drop the album or at the very least start the rollout. im very excited for LP5, having 5 TWY albums will be a dream come true. i cant believe how far theyve come in all respects, so proud
i think at the earliest we'd get a single is like, the week of the philly show. i'm not expecting that either, i almost feel like that'll be the live debut and then maybe february or march we get it
I’ve listened to this band a lot over the years and I can’t say I’ve made it through an entire GSOI song, let alone the whole album. It doesn’t exist in my mind
GSOI is fun, I understand not liking it and completely understand why the band doesn't, but I always have a fun time listening to it
TWY themselves have disowned GSOI! so it's not part of their official canon. The best thing they did with it was remix and remaster it so it no longer sounded like ass, but as far as they're concerned it doesn't count as one of their records.
“When Keeping It Real Goes Wrong” will always be a part of this band’s canon, at least in my mind. It’s a crystal clear sign of what they would become and is also just flat-out good in its own right.
I checked, and weirdly that song actually hasn't been played since the Suburbia release shows in 2011. Keystone State Dude-core is among the GSOI! songs they've acknowledged most recently, that was at a festival set in 2015 I believe. edit: Mikey played with them for said set in July 2015, woah: The Wonder Years Setlist at Tailgaters Festival Grounds, Jacksonville
Well aware of that - just, I totally get where you're coming from as it sounds like it could have fit on Won't Be Pathetic Forever and was a good indicator of where they were headed back then! It's weird it hasn't been played live in 6 years tho, is what I was getting at.
