WOW! I love that version of a 'A Song for Ernest Hemingway'. I think I prefer it to the original. So different, I love the back and forth between Dan and Matt? at the end. Better than I could have imagined.
Giving the full thing a listen now, hope the rest is as good as A Song for Ernest Hemingway! These guys can do no wrong.
EP is decent. I probably like Dismantling Summer the best. Excited for new music from these guys though.
Very impressed by the version of Ernest Hemingway on here. That was easily my least favorite song on NCTH, but I really like this one.
This version of "Coffee Eyes" has me really wishing I could make it to one of the New York shows with the string quartet.
Man, this sounds fantastic. I'm seriously so bummed I missed tickets to the Michigan show. They sold out before I got paid.
"You In January" is so great. I already loved the song, but the strings, the piano, Laura Stevenson's vocals here are perfect.
Yeah, I like it for the most part. The big highlights for are "Dismantling Summer" and "You in January." Laura sounds great on the latter. The string sections scattered throughout are a great touch and suit the new arrangements quite well. I also think Matt's vocals are probably some of the best he's ever sounded - there's a nice sincerity and sweetness to it that acts well as a foil to the Dan's soft-spoken tone. I think some of Dan's vocals are a little heavy-handed sometimes in just the way he adds some dramatic emphasis that doesn't really sit well, but overall, I do like how he sounds too.
I don't know why I'm surprised, but this is really great. Kind of renewed my love for TWY that has waned in recent years. I was feeling really nostalgic listening to it this morning. Dismantling Summer was definitely the highlight for me, Coffee Eyes was a close 2nd.
I just kinda want them to make more mellow music like this. As I've gotten older I don't need the fast, screaming Wonder Years anymore. His voice almost has more emotion in these without shouting. Probably an unpopular opinion, haha.
So this may sound silly and trivial, but does anyone else absolutely hate when acoustic guitar players don't pick their fingers up and slide them along the strings when changing chords so you hear that squeek? Is it ever a stylistic choice or is it just bad playing? I already am disliking A song for Ernest Hemingway because of that. That squeeking as the fingers run along the strings is as bad as nails on a chalk board to me.
Yeah, hit the nail on the head. I like this a lot, except for when Dan comes in too strong for the arrangement. Definitely gonna stay in my rotation for a while though.
Yeah this is much better than I expected it to be! I feel like There, There is the most basic version on here, I really like a lot of these though
I'm so glad they went and really reimagined the way these songs are. Dismantling Summer sounds like a completely different song in the best way.
The instrumentals on the choruses of Cardinals remind me of Moving Mountains a hell of a lot and now I'm a very sad boy
I had another choice for my wedding song already set but I think the new version of "You In January" may be replacing it haha
