Pretty sure they had a cool tour in the Fall that just got absorbed into the one they're doing now instead for some reason
Not really, real friends and knuckle puck are much more, TWY def has an older fanbase State champs did better than them last time
Yeah? maybe I'm thinking 21ish year olds. They had a pretty nice crowd here in Houston. Bigger than Real Friends, at least. From what I recall.
it's weird thinking that neck deep is probably the biggest band in this pop punk scene right now, lol
It might clear out a little, but I don't see that many people leaving before TWY. Maybe if Neck Deep was in the tour, but Real Friends has opened for TWY before and their fanbase, despite being leaning younger, isn't that different from TWY. I could see this being a coheadliner though.
I'll just say this about their relevance among current pop punk fans. I saw TWY headline in Charlotte and Cat's Cradle after the latest album. Bought tickets at the door and nowhere near capacity. The wet approximately 750-1k cap venues. Modern Baseball just sold out Cat's Cradle and people are scrambling to find tickets. As much as I love TWY I think they are on the decline of their popularity.
As much as I love this band I agree. It feels like they kind of blew their popularity by just sticking in the pop punk niche with other inferior bands.
it's a definite difference. these new bands are basically a whole generation after. real friends, state champs, neck deep, TSSF (though that fell of ridiculously quickly), etc are all above TWY at this point mobo's gonna surpass them soon too. and they have the critical acclaim none of these other bands do
I feel like there are so many elements of NCTH which could've made it something truly great but at it's core, it's still a pop-punk record. They peaked their brand of pop-punk on TGG and anything else they make within the genre from that record on, as long as it sticks to pop-punk, will just never be as good IMO. I feel like they could still pull back fans a hefty amount if they have a strong, different next record and start touring with, you know, different bands
I'm actually looking forward to seeing what Modern Baseball does after that last record. Never thought I'd care about that band, but I was pleasantly surprised.
TWY appealed to the generation after in 2013 with The Greatest Generation which is why I think there's some overlap. They have that "older" audience and some of the newer one. They'd still headline bigger rooms than all those other bands you listed, even if their popularity hasn't gone up much since having released No Closer to Heaven. Can't wait for Mobo to take over the world too.
These guys are going to probably be coming up on their 6th album next year, if you wanna count GSOI, so it's no surprise they've "peaked" at this point. Most bands don't have a constantly growing fan base 10+ years into their careers. All the bands mentioned on the last two pages maybe more popular with the pop-punk kids, but that's because TWY are moving away from that sound (albeit slowly). Someone said in the old thread (maybe Jason?) that they're in limbo right now. Their music has changed enough the where the younger kids aren't as interested, but hasn't changed enough to get newer fans on board. Could easily change with the new album, but for now that's just what it is.
i don't think i've listened to these since ncth. i have absolutely hated the vast majority of their last two albums.
i just think that's the pinnacle of what their sound (if they don't shift drastically) can be. i definitely think they have the potential to do something totally different based on their influences, but that's probably why i've been so disappointed with them over the past couple years
