I hate that 'Stained Glass Ceilings' is matched up with 'I Wanted So Badly To Be Brave', as they are my two of my three favorite tracks on the record. Either way, here goes nothing: Palm Reader (Alternate Version) I Don't Like Who I Was Then You In January I Wanted So Badly To Be Brave A Song For Patsy Cline Cardinals It's (Sort Of) A Pleasure To Meet You Cigarettes & Saints
Palm Reader. It took me a long time to get into this song but now I can't stop loving it I Don't Like Who I Was Then. This was a hard matchup. I loved San Andreas so much and I wish it was on the album. But I Don't Like is such a great fucking song and so emotional. Thanks For The Ride. Emotional once again. I relate to it so hard with the rememberance of a lost friend/loved one. Stained Glads Ceilings. Fuck you for making this match up. No Closer to Heaven. I have the lyrics tatttoed on me. No brainer. Cardinals. I don't have an explanation. I can't think of one. I'm just really tired. The Bluest Things on Earth. Thought the MCS cover was lame. Plus I just love the second verse is amazing. Cigarettes & Saints. Best song on the album hands down.
"Palm Reader" "I Don't Like Who I Was Then" "You In January" "I Wanted So Badly To Be Brave" "No Closer To Heaven" "Cardinals" "The Bluest Things On Earth" "Cigarettes & Saints"
Easily the one I care about most in this round is You in January over Thanks for the Ride, former is maybe my second favorite song on the album the latter is by far my least favorite
Palm Reader - this song feels like it could have been just a tad better/less straightforward than it ended up being, but the alternate version doesn't do much for me. Also, the verses of this song absolutely rule, and belting the chorus is always fun. Slow Dancing With San Andreas - this was kind of hard but not too much, I'm not a fan of the opening riff of "I Don't LIke Who I Was Then" and on an album that stretches the meaning of pop punk, that was the most straightforward song. "Slow Dancing" is just such a great track too, and reminds me of my time living in Orange County. Thanks for the Ride - "Thanks for the Ride" has such a beautiful/sad story behind it, and is insanely catchy. You in January is a beautiful song, especially considering it most clearly demonstrates how far Soupy has come on the spectrum of mental health, but it just doesn't click with me as much as "Thanks for the Ride" I Wanted So Badly to Be Brave - this was the hardest choice by far, but I feel like this is one of the most underrated songs on the record and so I had to vote my conscience A Song for Patsy Cline - the chorus of this song is awkward, mainly due to mixing issues, but that heavy riff still makes my jaw drop every time it comes in so it edges out NCTH just a tad Cardinals - epic song, 'nuf said The Bluest Things On Earth - probably my favourite on the album, another no brainer Cigarettes & Saints - I mean who is going to pick the other one over this song
Palm Reader I Don't Like Who I Was Then You In January Stained Glass Ceilings A Song for Patsy Cline Cardinals The Bluest Things on Earth Cigarettes & Saints
Palm Reader I Don't Like Who I Was Then Thanks for the Ride I Wanted So Badly To Be Brave A Song for Patsy Cline A Song for Ernest Hemingway Bluest Things on Earth Cigarettes & Saints
Palm Reader (Alternate Version) The vocal delivery and the way the drums come in during the bridge make this version for me. Slow Dancing With San Andreas Gosh do I love the lyrics of I Don't Like, but ultimately Slow Dancing wins out for me just with how I related to it at the time it came out. It's a special one to me and competes with My Life As Rob Gordon as my favorite B-side. You In January There's something about running the dishwasher so that his now wife can come home to clean dishes. I think it's the little things like this that make it one of the realest love songs about the little things. Thanks for the Ride is a cool song, but never really fit in on this record to me. I Wanted So Badly To Be Brave The desperation coming from Soupy's voice in the chorus right after the bridge just gets me every time. I loved seeing Stained Glass Ceilings live, but the lyrics for I Wanted win out for me. A Song For Patsy Cline While I love the hope and idea behind NCTH, the chorus is just too strong in Patsy Cline. And that riff comes in so hard after it. Cardinals I love the bridge in Hemingway more than any other part of either of these songs, but Cardinals is the overall better song and the introduction of "We're no saviors if we can't save our brothers" The Bluest Things On Earth This was one of my favorites when the album came out, and it remains one of my favorites still. Cigarettes & Saints I could make an argument that this is the best TWY song. Not necessarily my favorite, but the best. I drove from Virginia to Ohio the day this song came out and listened to it 8 times in a row before changing it. I was clinging to every word.
Palm Reader I Don't Like Who I Was Then You In January Stained Glass Ceilings No Closer to Heaven Hemingway Bluest Things Cigarettes and Saints haha nice first round bye
okay weird, same exact picks and I also have NCTH lyrics tattooed... "I'll keep walking anyway." in Dan's handwriting.
I have "No matter where I've been the future feels bright" across my chest with the artwork from the album.
Palm Reader (Alternate Version) Slow Dancing With San Andreas You In January Stained Glass Ceilings A Song For Patsy Cline A Song For Ernest Hemingway The Bluest Things On Earth Cigarettes & Saints
Palm Reader I Don't Like Who I Was Then Thanks For The Ride I Wanted So Badly To Be Brave A Song For Patsy Cline Cardinals The Bluest Things On Earth Cigarettes & Saints Stained Glass Ceilings and I Wanted So Badly To Be Brave are my two favorites on NTCH so this is a harsh first matchup.
I don't see how C&S doesn't win this whole thing. It's honestly their best song across all albums IMO
Palm Reader - tough choice but I'll take the original Slow Dancing With San Andreas - excellent b-side, though I didn't hear it for quite so time Thanks For The Ride - probably my second favorite after c & s Stained Glass Ceilings - unpopular opinion but I think Jason's part is fantastic A Song For Patsy Cline - another tough choice, pretty much flipped a coin on this Cardinals - floored me the first time I ever heard it The Bluest Things On Earth - cheesiest song on the album, but I'm a sucker for cheese Cigarettes & Saints - no explaination needed

I think NCTH has become my favorite Wonder Years album, so this is going to be a challenge for me: Palm Reader I Don't Like Who I Was Then Thanks For The Ride (Wow, that was a hard choice) Stained Glass Ceilings (That one was even harder) Patsy Cline Hemingway Bluest Things on Earth Cigarettes and Saints
Yeah I also think Cigarettes & Saints may win the whole thing. I just don't know what could beat it. I Just Want to Sell Out My Funeral? But that song really needs the buildup of the whole rest of that album behind it to be truly effective, whereas Cigarettes & Saints functions as its own standalone epic song. I don't know what else could beat it.
Palm Reader (never listened much to the alternative version, but this is one of my favorites on the album. I love that it works as the emotional climax of the album before NCTH.) I Don't Like Who I Was Then (again I didn't listen much to San Andreas) Thanks For The Ride Stained Glass Ceilings A Song For Patsy Cline Cardinals (this was my hardest choice though) The Bluest Things On Earth (even though I was tempted to because Sort Of a Pleasure because of Motion City) Cigarettes & Saints
if Devil in my Bloodstream doesn't win I don't wanna be Internet friends with anybody in here (untrue please be friends with me)
C & S should win, but there's a lot on TGG that could beat it out on this site. There, There, Devil, Funeral, or Dismantling could all realistically beat it based on what posters on here prefer from twy. My final four guess is WSP, COS, There There, and C & S
